How to delete a Gadget?

I cannot find command like DeleteGadget or RemoveGadget for removing a gadget on runtime and release memory.

Is there a trick?
I prefer a non WinAPI solution which works in Windows as well as in Linux.

Is there another possibility to access to cursor position inside a string gadget which works well with Windows and Linux (instead of WinAPI)?

To remove a gadget, there is FreeGadget() command.
