Expand it to game and / or graphic fx and / or anything else related to
winter and / or xmas
Hmm, I think I will inform Rob about this thread. Maybe he manages
to start an "official purecontest" (see :
http://www.mentaloverflow.de/purecontest/ )
However, even there is no
rea contest organized - Maybe some of "us"
have some spare time and the motivation to do a little piece of code.
@DarkDragon:
Looking forward to see you 3d Snowboard game
// Edit: Informed.

Yeah Benny!
I know that from time to time, the German forum organizes this kind of contests...
Some nice things have come out of past events, I think it's more than natural, that it should became "official", so that members become more interested and participate!
Maybe we could cook up a set of yearly events with several catagories:
- Best PureBasic Tool (voted at the end of the year)
- Best Tip & Trick (voted at the end of the year)
- Best User Library or additional commands
- Christmas Game Competition
- Summer Game Competition

The next PureContest was intended to be a code-optimization-contest, but since my progress is not very advanced and the crowd wants another XMas-Contest, i can do this instead

.
Or you do, i dont have to be the only organizer everytime. if one/many has/have a good idea and the 2 forums agree with this, he/they can hold a new "PureContest" on the [url=htp://
www.mentaloverflow.de/purecontest]site[/url], no problem.
My idea for the PureContest was not only a 'contest' with winners and losers, but a opportunity to learn new things, either by participating or by studying the participants code. hence always different problems (size-optimization, games, AI, maybe speed), but another xmas-contest with pretty graphics should be fun to...
Also somebody with good german/english knowledge would be useful, so that you english speaking people have something better to read than my poor translations. though benny already did a good job with some text of the last contests...

@Num3:
Cool and interesting ideas. Reminds me on the golden Amiga era where
you voted for categories like :
- best coder
- best demo
- best demogroup
et cetera ...
All in all, i like the idea of some annual steady contests like a xmas contest.
I think it's nice to see the development over the years (and of course the
changes of purebasic's abilities).
Maybe we could figure out an international regulation for this kind of contests
that is open for all users of the existing forums (french, official and german).
@Rob:
Your basic idea about the purecontest of gaining new knowledge and so
on is very good in my eyes. However, some
fun contests should
take place (regulary) imho.
If you would like to manage and promote it on your site I assit you with
translation-matters ( although my english is far from perfect

) and I
think this would be cool.

Another idea for (maybe) a nice contest will be:
All participants have to use the same resources:
- PureBasic (of course!)
- same Graphic FX (Sprites, bitmaps, etc)
- same Sound FX
I belive it will be very interest to see what different 'games' will be 'developed' with the same resources.

Xmas Contest
=-=-=--=--=-
This year will have 2 categories:
a) Games
b) Demos and Effects
Due date: 19/12/2004
Voting Period: 20/12/2004 to 24/12/2004
All entries must be allusive to Christmas...
The entries must have source code included, and must compile (remember to distribute DLL or libs necessary for this!).
The entries must have a pre-compiled executable to be examined.
External DLL or Graphic Engines can be used, has long has the game/demo is compiled with Purebasic!
I'll be talking to Rob, to host the contest and hopefully receive entries on PureContest site! And also to put this post on the German forums.
