Hi, I just got Knoppix v3.3 on a bootable CD so I can finally check out the
wonderful world of Linux without having to install it. However, my mouse
doesn't work with it. The FAQ states to boot the CD with this command,
but it doesn't help:

knoppix pci=irqmask=0x0e98

The mouse pointer is visible but just sits there in the center of the Desktop.
So, are there any keyboard shortcuts for using the mouse? All I need to do
is be able to move it and click on things. Thanks for any advice! (BTW, this
is not my PC so I can't install anything or replace the mouse. It's an older
system too: PII with 96 MB of RAM).

Is it a ps2 mouse? If so, try a serial mouse. No set-up is usually needed for a serial mouse and once you have it running you can do any config if you must have a ps2 mouse.

Haven't tried Knoppix myself but I have tried DyneBolic. DB lets you create a "nest" for local setting and much more besides. See here: http://dynebolic.org/

I think so. It's not my PC and access to the tower is not easily possible, as
the PC is mounted inside a cabinet (only the front of the tower is visible).
The label under the mouse says "Fast Mouse: Model OK-520" and Google
seems to imply that it's a PS2.

Unfortunately, this is not an option. I'll have to wait until I move out and
get my own PC up-and-running again.

I suppose it's the geeks definition of a "lock-in", ie, sounds like you are locked in a server room

Nope, just my mother-in-law's house and the PC cabinet is a bad design.
