I don't know any Linux distro that doesn't have a package manager included. When I first tried Linux I couldn't believe how easy installing software was! With Windows if I wanted to install multiple programs I'd have to go to multiple web sites, download an installer for each one and run them one after the other. With Linux I opened the package manager, clicked the checkbox next to each application I wanted and then clicked 'Apply'. How could it be any easier? In fact the Linux repositories and package manager model is so excellent Apple, Microsoft and Google have all copied the idea except they call their versions 'app stores'.Teddy Rogers wrote:Whilst Linux remains fragmented and continues it's over reliance on using terminal and running scripts to install programs its never going to appeal to the common computer user.
I sincerely appreciate the appreciaters.jack wrote:thank you heartbone for the info
Brutally honest and very true DK_PETER.DK_PETER wrote:And now you get it. Windows won't go away.Re-thinking it, you are probably right. People also use Facebook and other data/information collecting things,

Furthermore people today don't give a shit about privacy issues and are willing to conduct full blown surveillance
on each other through facebook and other social medias.
Reading a disclaimer and license agreement is something in the past unless there are pictures.
Today: If you don't have a facebook-, twitter-, instagram- and/or a snapchat account today - you're a weirdo and show a tendency towards asocial behaviour.![]()
Now, if you add to the fact that:
1. The majority of people are buying a windows compatible pc, though something seems to indicate, that:

2. Most new rigs are sold with windows.
3. People don't give a crap about commercials, they just swallow everything
coming from all media outlets. We are incarnated consumers - not people.
4. Most people can't read more than an A4 paper sized text without falling asleep.

5. Mobile phones have made the majority mentally handicapped.

Today, everything is 'Google a question' and the search result must be no longer than 3 lines.
Example: Take some newcomers (even some oldtimers) to programming: Read some their questions and wishlist.
Something tells me, that reading a f..... manual is way too hard to get through and understand.
I might piss off some people here, but I really don't care.
People are getting waaay too lazy and expect everything out of nothing!
example: http://www.purebasic.fr/english/viewtop ... =4&t=62907
Really folks, that's an issue adding two quotation marks as return value? And the remarks are event worse.
Come on...Flame me! Still don't care one bit.![]()
Here are some links to read:

It doesn't matter if things are crap...That goes for both OS/X and Windows. People are willing to get butt.... as long
as they get the best entertainment platform and they will swallow everything as is.
I work on Windows and will eventually buy Windows 10 Enterprise (not home or pro), because I know people and their fallacies.
EOF.
All very true and while your post is off topic, I grok why the disinfo needs to be refuted.the.weavster wrote:I don't know any Linux distro that doesn't have a package manager included. If you're looking for a distro for the 'common computer user' I'd recommend Ubuntu Mate or Linux Mint Mate.
I am asocial! Yes! I finally belong to some group!DK_PETER wrote: Today: If you don't have a facebook-, twitter-, instagram- and/or a snapchat account today - you're a weirdo and show a tendency towards asocial behaviour.
You have misinterpreted what I wrote, I never stated a Linux distro does or does not include a package manager. What I implied is there are programs you have to default back to terminal to install depending on Linux distribution. Two recent examples come to mind are VMWare Linux and Comodo Antivirus Linux. I don't see many lay persons being able to do that so easily with a common Linux distribution such as Linux Mint...the.weavster wrote:I don't know any Linux distro that doesn't have a package manager included.
Your analogy is a good one Dude.Dude wrote:^ THIS. An operating system is meant to be like a country road, with apps being the vehicles. But the road seems to be taking over too much now, with red lights everywhere, and toll booths, and making you pay to park instead of letting you park for free at the kerb, and all that sort of crap that annoy city drivers. IMO, anyway.heartbone wrote:I think there are too many who've lost sight of what a computer operating system is supposed to do.
