I ordered my copy last night! I'll just follow someone's (jroad's) advice and go to Kinkos to get it spiral bound.

Just got an e-mail from CafePress asking me to take part in a survey about
my purchase. I basically told them the off-white pages make the book look
old/faded, plus the dented pages make it look second-hand. Now that I think
about it, it almost feels like I was sold a used copy. My wife even thought
I had bought it off eBay from someone! So I doubt I'll be using them again.

Note: This is NOT a slight on Kale -- the book is FANTASTIC -- it's just the
company that supplied it that sucks. I'd much rather have had a PDF version
that I could've printed out at work on my own white paper with no dents.

Interesting - particularly given that the book would look dented (the way that I look after books) within a week or so.

The paper colour suits me - its easier to read under low light conditions.

BTW - the book is great.

you can't judge a company from a one thing deal.
I've purchased several things from Cafepress and never had any problems. I think you just got unlucky and ended up with the bad end of a mistake, or something.

I got the book in perfect shape. No problems there.
The only remark I have is that the text is a bit too much to the middle of the book.
If you want to read it you have to dent the book a bit.
So, if the margins were a bit bigger it would be easier to read.
But the content is most important and that content is perfect.

I've bought a few copies from Cafepress and all were delivered in perfect shape. I think PB's posty has been kicking his around a bit.

Actually before i choose Cafepress i tried another company called Lulu.com. I ordered a book from them and the print wasn't nearly as good as CP, and the book was well knackered when i got it. It was really badly packaged. So i decide i wasn't going to use them.

Hehe, no, it was in a box and the book was very loose in bubble-wrap inside.
Plenty of room for it to move around. It's not terrible but it's disappointing.

Though it's already been shot down. I'm still holding out (and hoping) for a pdf version...

Well, I'm only half-way through but I think it's very well-written, informative and easy to read. It's just what someone new to PB (like myself) needs.

Any plans to write other books Kale?

I did notice a couple cut markings on the outter edges of the book, once I closed it. (not a big deal to me, it's a programming book that will be obsolete in a few years, more than likely, anyway).

And I am liking the yellow'ish colored pages. I too believe it does make it easier to read, especially in brightly lit areas.

The book content? For me it's easy to read and about 99% of the time Kale seems to have taken extra care to make sure the reader understand what the content is about and how to use it.

Under availability, it says " Books will ship in a minimum of 5 business days.".

Wonder if it really means in a maximum?

Or maybe it's so popular it's already out-of-stock?

Oh well, we'll see how long it takes to get here
