See you there...

Greetings ... Kiffi
Although you should have posted it in Applications - Feedback and Discussion -- Applications, Games, Tools, User libs and useful stuff coded in PureBasic where feedback and discussion of a project made in PB is allowed, it is still very alarming that you have been asked to no longer post about your project made in PB. When the author of a programming language is openly discouraging people from using the language and trying to suppress projects created with the language, it makes you wonder why they are even producing a programming language... Extremely concerning actions...

That's right, I asked Kiffi to do so and he agreed which I'm grateful for. The reason behind this is simple: we are currently developping since almost one year a similar product called SpiderBasic which will allow to write complex applications running in the web browser using PB like syntax. That's exactly the same concept, so we can't allow promoting same product on our own forums, I hope everyone understand that.

That's the big announcement we wanted to share with your early this year and wish you an Happy new Year 2014 :)

ps: we will release an alpha version probably later today so you can take a look by yourself (still very WIP but interesting to play with).

I kinda had a feeling a "competing product" was coming into play, as you generally don't discourage any product. Also had a feeling news would be forthcoming given the circumstance here.

A browser based basic... Very interesting...

Wait... You've been doing that PLUS the awesome 5.X updates? Is there like 15 Freds?

I'm awfully sorry for Kiffi, who started PB2Web project in May 2013 in german forum.
8 month of work... and now everybody waiting for big SpiderBasic. Hope Kiffi doesn't
get too depressed, as I feel that may be really hard to swallow.

Anyway, it already showed the big demand and interest for such a product here. ;)
1700+ views and 80 replies - within 6 days! Really extraordinary.

I am pretty sure Kiffi learned quite a bit with this project, so at least it was not for nothing.

It sounds like SpiderBasic will be an additional commercial* product apart from PureBasic (or maybe as an addon)!? If so PB2Web could be the free, community driven alternative! 8)

* otherwise there would be no reason to "ban" it from the forum and give it a different name

Yes, would be nice if the project does not die. Although that's not easy, if you can't talk
about your tool for PureBasic within the PureBasic community. Let's hope the best!

@danilo

Maybe I'm the only one not thrilled about it.
Not for technical reasons, obviously it's something potentially interesting.

As kuron said when he was still concerned (a very momentary state it seem) Kiffi is making a product (commercial ? free ? I don't know) using PB. So he should be able to talk about it here IMO.
Everyone here is/was invited to do so, judging from the description of the forums sections created for that.
I really don't see the problem, but maybe it's because I think the better product, the one getting more followers, it's simply the one deserving to live on. Maybe both can do that and attract different users.
Who knows. Nature should take its course. Superior technology, quality, support should speak for themselves.

On top of that, I hope a new project would not take its toll with the bug-fixing PB needs and will always need if it's going to grow further. I don't share the enthusiasm many people here demonstrated about the supposed ability of fred to multiply himself. The cycle of bug-squashing in PB is still far from optimal in my view. Not saying it's something legally due. We already talked about that and I don't want to repeat myself.

Also I'm not saying Fred & co don't have the full right of do whatever they please, obviously.
And probably a new project can infuse new enthusiasm and fun in their coding routine.
Not last maybe a new source of income.

Anyway, I'm not thrilled, not today. Just a different point of view in contrast to all the excitement.

I am also waiting for at least critical bug fixes for PB 5.21 LTS, luis.
By critical I mean when the compiler generates wrong code and similar critical things.
Example is here, bug on all 3 platforms with 64bit versions. No reaction after 6 weeks.

But now I understand why the developers were so silent over the last weeks and month.
Every company is allowed to have more than one product, and they are allowed to make
money to have a living. Especially with PB, where all updates were free over the last 13 years or so.

Let's wait and see, as always. ;)

PB2Web and SpiderBasic have the potential of programming for tablets and smartphones.
Make a minimal fullscreen native start-up App for iPad, iPhone, Android, and a minimal Win8 App,
all containing something like a WebGadget and the HTML5/JavaScript code embedded,
that is generated by PB2Web and SpiderBasic. Voila, an App on tablets!

I say congrats to Kiffi but I'm looking forward to SpiderBasic as I'm sure it's cross platform. :D

Bit of an awkward way to see a new product announced, but it couldn't be helped I guess. I'll be pleased if it comes with its own purchased license as it sounds like something that most of us will buy (and a lot of other people too) and the success of Fantaisie Software is, in a very real way, our success.
