I actually get the distinct feeling that Fred doesn't want it to get too big. :?:
That sort of success can radically change things. Maybe he doesn't want that.

I think that Purebasic is Fred's main job today.

Furthermore, why wouldn't he want to get PB bigger ? This is the aim when you produce a software.

No one can speak for someone else's 'aim'. :)

I think it's more of a hobby for him too, a serious, money making one perhaps but still a hobby. Getting bigger doesn't seem to be what this is about although getting better seems to be a good part of it.

For this reason PB might not be the best compiler for some people but I don't think that even free offers to help with marketing etc will change anything.

It is what it is.

I wouldn't mind entering in a PureBasic logo or homepage contest :D
I dunno about it getting bigger, I'm not against it but I don't mind if it doesn't :)

And fine it is. I'm very happy with how Fred and team are managing it.

Fred is a wise man. Respect.

PLUS: (still on the lines limitation thing...) the most recent GAME I wrote is 849 lines (thus far) and I could seriously trim that to under 800 if I took out all the organizational BLANK lines i use to read my code better...

I could have written the entire thing in the DEMO version... I may try to compile it in that just to see if it could be done.

PureBasic is a niche product, and it always will be. Be realistic for a change.

Its not about the website, its not about the marketing (although it probably could be better),
its not about OOP, its not about all the other "killer features" some of you tend to think will
lead to instant world domination.
Its simply about what the world of compilers and programming languages looks like today,
and PB will never stand a chance there against the big shots. But thats not our aim and
it never was.

So just grow up and face the real world...

I do appreciate PB as a programming language very much, and I believe that it has a powerful niche. I recommended PB to several guys - I'm sure at least 10 of them purchased, but here is the problem: All of them were nerds, geeks, experienced software engineers but they never heard a single word about PB. Though they bought it 'instantly' after trying the demo. My conclusion is that marketing or in more detail the awareness creation that something like PB exists is non-existing.

Freak, you being German just try to search heise, golem, [insert any computer or software mag here] for PureBasic... - btw: have you done any product positioning?

Somebody from the German forums added PB to the heise software archive
and I constantly report a new version number once a new version is released.
Here's the link: http://www.heise.de/software/download/purebasic/7873
The current user rating is 4.5 out of 5! :P

Searching on google
google wrote:Freebasic = 109,000 pages
Quickbasic = 159,000
Purebasic = 169,000
So far so good, but
google wrote:Blitzbasic = 385,000
Well, it does (did) have a big following but it is mainly a game orientated language. (prepares for the flack to come pouring in)

Then there's
google wrote:Visual basic = 39,900,000
But I'm sure that not all those are MS visual basic hits but no doubt the majority are.

Now the question is, how much has it cost MS to get that much placement?
