Fuel for you OOP non-believers...
I tend to agree with fsw and utopiomania, he appears to have made a career of begging.
Of the developer/partners:
1: How many develop the product or understand the code?
2: Is it just a way to distribute source in case this venture goes belly up?
3: What rights and liabilities do the partners have?
4: How is the profit shared?

utopiomania, quit being an asshole. Perhaps you do not know what it is like to be in financial trouble or on hard times, if so consider yourself lucky.
Can you imagine how humbling it is for Paul to ask for help like that? Besides, Paul is only asking for help in a community of his friends. How is this causing a problem for you?
I know what it is like to be poor, to be down on your luck, hell, just to have bad luck in general. Life is always filled with unexpected stuff that can cause bad financial hardships.
We had a small Tornado damage our house when I lived in Virginia. We went through a hurricane when I lived in Florida that damaged much of our house due to the flooding. We have been through two hurricanes here in Maryland that damaged our house because of the flooding.
Back in '98 when I was in really bad health, the only reason my family was able to eat one month was because of the kidness of members of the online Christian writing group I was in who either sent us food, or money for food.
I have had a lot of health problems since then that add a strain to the finances. I took a really bad fall in February that messed my back up really bad for several months. Once that got better, I had major surgery this June, and then at the end of August because of other health issues. Just as things were looking good and it looked like things were going to be good for a while, my wife and I were in a major car accident on Septembet 13th. At least with the accident, with the money we got in our insurance settlement, we are able to have a nice Christmas for the kids, and I was able to buy a new computer to use as my "development" machine.
Add to this having our Daughter die in '98, my Brother dying about two years ago, another Daughter with very bad heart trouble who will be lucky to live to see 30.
And that is just the "condensed" version.
I have a lot of friends who have it much worse financially, health-wise and problems in general.
No matter what problems I have had to face in life, I never could have done it without the love and support of friends and family. I am sure most people would say the same.
I pity you utopiomania, for being such a miserable person that in order to make yourself feel better about yourself, you have to resort to attacking Paul, apparently doing so out of envy because he actually has friends he can turn to when he needs emotional support or help financially.

@White Eagle - don't know what to say there, your family really has been through the mill; cripes. I hope things are a little 'settled' at the moment.
I think that Aurora has made unbelievable progress in its short lifespan so far. The guy must be throwing everything except the kitchen sink into it to progress the project as far as he has in such short a time. Whilst I'm a registered user, I haven't made use of Aurora yet; too busy to get stuck in whilst the docs are still incomplete (Kale???
)
I see nothing wrong with asking for assistance when required. People will either donate, or they won't. The help he gives through the forums is enough, imho, to charge a small subscription!

I may look like a mule, but I'm not a complete ass.
I downloaded Aurora to compare with PB... I know that one is OOP and the
other is not... but I was curious....
I tested "tabctrl_demo3"

Back to the main discusion...
Life is beautiful, life is hard, for some is harder than for others....
but if there is some space to help others, why not?

Code: Select all
Aurora:

PureBasic:

Funnily enough i've been recently playing with Realbasic because i can't wait any longer for Purebasic's Mac support.
I'm definately gonna port across my apps to RB because i urgently need them to be cross-platform, but it's hard work. RB is very quick to develop in but (to me) its a strange way of doing things. It's an OOP BASIC (which is odd) and everything is event driven, and the minimum exe size is 3MB!!!
But hey, i need windows and mac apps NOW!
The big plus for RB (for me) is the RAD IDE, PB could learn from it.
Infact i wouldn't call Realbasic a programming language per se, i would call it a dev environment.

I worked with RB..... every 3 months comes out with a new
update, means you need to get the software + support for one year to get the annual updates.
I created and app in RB size 3.6 MB, same app in PB 168K...
cons of RB:
- Big exe's
- too sloow
- If you talk bad about RB in the forum you are fired!
- Bad reputation in the app market (check the forum)
BTW... I moved to PB because the cross-platform thingy.... hope
soon we can see PB 4 in Mac and Linux.
Anyway, when PB MAC be ready you'll comeback... for sure

I love the true cross-compiling. AFAIK, the only other language to currently offer this is GLBasic.RB... its a strange way of doing things
Besides the large EXEs, the thing I never liked about RB was its dependency on Quicktime for its 2D routines. I actually stopped using it because too many of my testers didn't have Quicktime installed and were reluctant to install it (understandably so as I hate Quicktime) just to run a game.
Do you know about Kbasic? it has version for Win, Mac and Linux is OOPKale wrote:I agree.srod wrote:I found RB too buggy for my liking. And too expensive.but i've got to use it.
the exe's are half RB's. Price 35 USD each version...
I never used it.... you can try...
http://kbasic.com/
Yep, i've checked that one out too. I settled with RB because of reading the forums there and using the demo. To be honest it just works and seemed a little more professional.chen wrote:Do you know about Kbasic? it has version for Win, Mac and Linux is OOP the exe's are half RB's. @White Eagle
sorry for your losses and how things went.
As you said without the help of your friends it would have been much harder.
But friends are people you know, or people in your neighborhood you know, or people in your social/religious community.
People you know face to face.
Only kids, teenagers and naive persons would think that people ON THE NET are friends
I could tell you a lot of lies and you could do the same.
Why is that?
Because you don't know me and I don't know you.
People I don't know face to face I don't consider as possible friends.
My Conclusion:
Never trust anybody on the net, NEVER EVER
