I would ask you guys who are concerned about support for PureBasic to consider the larger picture. Fred is currently working fulltime on Fantaisie Software and no matter how many projects he takes on, trust me that's a good thing. He has a living to make and the new product will help immensely to that end. PureBasic has a license for life but the new one doesn't. It promises to keep the euros rolling in and I for one am very glad he's taking this route. Would you rather he had to take a fulltime job later this year and end up coding PureBasic in his spare time? All burned out from a hard day at the office? Believe me when I tell you, whether you are planning to use SpiderBasic or not, this is great news. It is your very best chance of getting the most in future support for PureBasic, whether you can see that right now or not.

Agree with Netmaestro; this is great news and, inmo, a great direction for Fred and co. to take. Whether you like it or not, more and more apps are going to target browsers and more and more 'casual' users already see little more than their browser anyhow! I can't think of a better way of securing the future of PB. I have thought for a long time now that a new direction was needed, or at least something to run parallel with PB as it is, and has been up to now. These forums are littered with requests for PB to natively support different platforms; from iPhones, Android, XBox, .NET... right the way up to my washing machine! But really, how is that ever going to happen lest Fred employ half the wine drinking population of France? (hehe, no offence Fred, I likes a nice bottle of wine myself!)

No, I think this is a fantastic direction for Fantasie software to take. HTML5, web canvas, Javascript, JQuery... bring it on! :)

I will be buying Spider Basic regardless of whether I use it or not... and I certainly intend using it! It actually comes at a great time for me. Thank you Fred/Freak/all team members. I can't wait to get started with SB.

Just my 2 cents.

Totally agree with this statement. People used to say that the Windows
version of PureBasic would suffer because Fred spent time on the Linux
and Mac versions, but this hasn't been proven true. All three are kept
updated regularly and pretty much in unison. SpiderBasic will just be
the fourth platform (ie. web) to get the same united updates.

It also keeps Fred financially stable, which means PureBasic won't be
abandoned due to its free updates policy. Stop panicking and get on
board; it's going to be a fun ride! :D

Actually, let's keep it real and study the facts. SpiderBasic has been in
dev for one year now. In the past year, while SpiderBasic was cooking,
PureBasic itself has had THREE major updates and fixes:

http://www.purebasic.com/news64.php
http://www.purebasic.com/news65.php
http://www.purebasic.com/news66.php

Go and check out those links that list all the PureBasic changes and fixes
made in ONE YEAR, during which SpiderBasic was also developed! Support
for PureBasic won't stop, as I've just proven. Stop panicking and enjoy.

Perhaps those who are worried about the future of PureBasic would be happier finding another language to use. Actions speak louder than words. If you are unhappy, leave. It really is that simple. If you are grumbling and don't leave you are nothing more than a hypocrite.

I think this is a very positive step for PB, the PB team need to make a living like the rest of us do and
I would prefer they had the funds for the work they do, no one can live off fresh air alone!

SpiderBasic will hopefully be a great success and a much needed tool for developers.

Many people have tried and failed to crash it, myself included. Give it time a solution will come about! could you post
a screenshot of the error?

What bothers me is the payment system at each update

I prefer, pay more for the license once (€ 200-250) and have a life update
that's why I chose PureBasic at the beginning ....

I do not like subscriptions, which for me was a credit equivalent

Hey netmaestro, srod and PB.

Oooohhh, I really don't mind, that Fantaisie Software gets additional products in their portfolio -
and Fred certainly deserves to make a few bucks to keep everything going.
I just wanted to know, how PB would be prioritized in the 'near future'.
My use of PB is solely for fun. I have no 'business' and have no desire
creating one. It's a hobby, which can be substituted with another language - quite easily.
I do like the PB syntax and right now, I'm enjoying the 3D part.
I would like to see that part expand and mature.

There's neither panicking nor hypocrisy(@Kuron) involved, it's simply pure curiosity. ;-)

I do, however, wish Fred and the team the very best with SpiderBasic.

Just created a new bug forum for SpiderBasic, so you can post your finding here: http://www.purebasic.fr/english/viewforum.php?f=41 . This forum will be removed when SpiderBasic will be officially released.

Why? Because of a crash here...

...that nobody but you can reproduce?

LOL! This topic is funny. This should be looked at as a good thing. Another way to publish your apps or show basic online demos of your apps on your website. Long live SpiderBasic! :D

Like usually i come after the war

Even if i'm me too, a little bit affraid, FRED is enough mature to see if he is able to manage PB and SB.
And it's not because it's two of my SUPER heroes, but i agree with NETMAESTRO and SROD 8)
All the time client ask to me for create web application, and behind my desk i feel me alone, even if i love it, with my local langage with *Pointers, API etc ..
The web is the future, and even if i hate all this scripts, it's now very difficult to avoid the JavaScript, PHP, HTML... :?
Now it's unfortunately time to WEB, ANDROID, etc ...

I have create a little application in JAVA, and i think the men who create this langage is sick
Already i found PHP and JS not very simple, but this time, i have never see a langage also unintuitive, hard and also unpleasant to programming
Furthermore, everybody say JAVA is the langage of this time, so a langage without include, and others functions present in PB and very usefull, is not for me so actual
Image

And i'lm happy to see, that projects like Pb2Web of KIFFY, or SpiderBasic come, for give acces to the power of WEB, without the complexity.
Thanks to PB, i have nearly the power of the C, without the complexity, and i hope a day can programming in SB on ANDROID, without use this sh...of JAVA

And for finish, FRED need also to eat...and i find him a little bit lean...
Normal, the PB license is not enough lucrative, to pay him at full time

So with this system, SB can pay for PB, and like that the two langage are winner 8)

For sure FRED before SpiderBasic

Image

And soon...FRED after SpiderBasic !!! :D

Image

There are no PHOTO, hummmm !!!

So..... long life to the new baby of BASIC !!! 8)

I have just a bad news for FRED..
KCC surely use SB, if it manage ANDROID and if the license each time, is not too expensive for the olds PB programmers
And if i can use UseGIFImageDecoder() obviously
