1. A free educational version (PureBasic lite?), free to schools to use, that is better than the current demo version.
2. Provide big discounts to schools to use full PureBasic.
This might help spread PureBasic through the education systems.
I say no... just what we need... a bunch of hypergolic teenyboppers trying to code viri and chatsnags to pwn MSN!
consider what the forums would look like were schoolkids all over the world using PB! We would have to have 733t decoders!!!
If a school wants to use the DEMO it is fine as it is... 90% of the morons teaching Computer Science in Middle and High school couldn't program their way out of a wet paper bag!

love your quotes about computers in middle school...
like this one too:

PureBasic Lite could show a messagebox everytime a compiled application runs that shows "coded using PureBasic". Also some commands could be off (webgadget, ftp, etc) of this lite version.
Someone could hack this "limitation"? Yes, the same as there are PB version available at rapidshare, etc.
Note:
If anyone find his own apps in rapidshare, just send an email to
abuse@rapidshare.com showing the offending links and the url of the web that point to the file and they remove it fast.
The sender of the email need to be a part of the developers teams.
So each email need to be sent by the developers or partners.

got inspired by the thread - didn't have much time, but this is what I came up with. You might want to run a compo to create a proper logo and hp, think quite some might join even there wouldn't be a reward. And yes, you suck in marketing...

@V2
the layout is ok and the colors are not too poppy.
contra:
1. it's too much aimed on youngsters for my taste.
"Get purely hooked on BASIC" has a bad taste.
2. Never change a Logo-Name. The Font of the Name is Impact or Haettenschweiler.
3. the slogan is "feel the ...PURE... power" not "code the impossible" (wich is, literally, nonsense)
all in all: it's quite ok...

Except when the logo is no good
Just to show how much the purebasic website needs to be updated, just go to the screenshot page... and see the editor image, taken on windows 98... which version of Purebasic ? 3.7 ?
I'm happy I already bought Purebasic, because I wouldn't do it by seeing this website...

Hi Fangbeast,
don't get stuck on my post count - I joined the PB community end of 2001 and did my contribution ... and yes, I think he sucks in marketing

. But don't get me wrong here - he's an excellent coder (though consistency hasn't been his strength - I second Danielo's comments there). I'm lacking a good visual identity, marketing concept - e.g. where are the press releases, free offers to journalists, so in general: Where's the news coverage? Marketing doesn't have to be expensive to be effective... and it's about time for a new hp as well as a new logo - it will get more expensive later to change than now, not only newbies can see that...
So, let me extend my proposal to Fred:
1. Run a logo / identity creation compo
2. Run a hp creation compo (in case you don't like the results, ask e.g. Everaldo/Yellowicon - they are nice to work with and 95$/h is a good investment, especially with the € atm)
3. Ask the PB community to collect programming and computer magazine addresses (set some focus countries)
4. Offer journalists free PB versions to review - you might also offer to take part in interviews
5. Issue and distribute press releases for each release to get news coverage
6. Involve the community - e.g. create a new forum to ask for and discuss marketing / sales opportunities

Colors were taken from Kuler -

As said, it's been a quick one, just to throw another example on the table...

1. OK, main idea here is to have a catch phrase and an easy to read text - I'd like to see only 3-5 bullets explaining why Purebasic is extraordinary (e.g. PB Apps, PB Games, PB <here goes all the fun stuff like asm, debuggers, etc.>)
2. I don't like the logo and I think a standard font isn't a good identification - a logo should be nice, reflecting and uniquely recognizable - it isn't at the moment (that doesn't mean I'm a big fan of my proposal either)
3. OK - didn't know that, just added some text/slogan... Whereas a slogan is used to narrow the activity field - only huge companies can leave that out - and pure power might be in the power industry - maybe that's why ABBKlaus sticks around here

Personal taste, experience - but it's hard to argue about something you can't really measure. To be honest - the logo looks cheap to me - the font imho isn't professional (compared to some in font folio) and the realization looks like a coder has done it

which leaves a bad mark.
Actually it always depends what you're comparing to - I'd like to see PB on the same level as e.g. .NET - best of it's line. You have to admit we're light years away from competing with them regarding the visual appearance.

Hi,
When i have decided to brought PB, that's was because I felt (feel preterit ?

) this serious.
I would not have buy it, if at first impression i felt this language was a cheap toy.
Serious is exactly what I expect from this kind of product, sobriety of the "communication" of PB as "played" in my choice.
The website have ages, it's a sure thing.. And a little lifting would not be the worst thing it can happend.. But I like the simple, clean ..
pure identity that i feel on this website. ^^
Just a little point of view =p
Edit ->
and the realization looks like a coder has done it Wink which leaves a bad mark.
Well no.. Hum.. Not for me.
I study "communication visuelle" until 4 years, just for saying I am not totaly profane. And no, i dont search esthetism in PB !
I juste want a tool, "make by coders for coders" ^^, to write clear and easly intelligible "orders" at a computer. Not feel i have the last fashionable gadget.

Sounds like you need a new compiler, this one isn't giving you what you need!. It gives me what I need but my needs <> your needs.

I disagree entirely. PureBasic needs a redesign and rethink in its marketing across the board.
This is something i've been saying for years, although to be honest PB is Fred's hobby and not a true money making business. In other words Fred will still eat and have a roof over his head if PB doesn't do very well.
I agree with the OP though, PB could be HUGE given the right marketing team and a bit of investment. Also PB needs to achieve a certain critical mass before people start investing in PB, e.g. writing books, tools, etc...
