MAN listen, the question was wether or not the forums has changed. On the few occations i need help, i get help, thats very good. Especially from people like yourself but you know that. Thats not what i talk about.
Foz wrote:That's because you've ascended to "godlike" coding level. Of course everything doesn't inspire you when everything and everyone is below you
Yeah that might be a part of it. The things just aren't as big and catchy as the things that was brought up back then.
what i mean is something like this:
I still love looking at and using Rings old self modifying code. Just that little piece of good code made me write a larger library of procedures for anticracking, and posting crackme's various places. I had 10's of hours of reading assembly codes and using debuggers and diassemblers, and reading various documents, and not least coding purebasic and writing small assembly libraries with pelle's c / masm.

This happened a few years ago.
I just don't find things that could do such a thing to me.

Man i could sit for hours at night working on that, even though i had to attend school!

And later on talking long out in the night about heuristic engines that a genious around here was working on. We talked for hours in a row about that tech stuff, running speed tests. One night we ported a few string search algorithms to assembly with little knowledge, and Oh my we got it working! We improved the speed of the algorithm many times. Thats a fucking victory. You know, i still use that old code this day today at an application at the company.

It was just amazing.. Do you understand now what it is i talk about?

Well, the forums may have changed from your perspective, but for me they remain what they have always been, namely a valuable resource. Sure, the kinds of questons that get asked may change, as might the people asking them as more and more come and go etc. so in that regard, sure things change, but the basic nature of these forums never will. So much has now been asked and, where appropriate, solved that there is now little need for many questions to be asked again as their solutions are already a part of these pages. So, your experience of these forums will of course change, but then that depends on what it is you use these forums for?

Whether the 'atmosphere' has changed doesn't concern me at all, that is immaterial and secondary to the whole purpose of this site.

This is just my opinion.

thats probably it.

many things. We had great discussions of religion, time travelling, riddles etc. Tech stuff too. Now all i see is some sexual harrasment jokes and posts about donating and other nonsense..., all the rest is filtered off so people don't even try to start it anymore.
Its just not possible to have a discussion about anything happening in the world anymore. People wanted to talk about microsoft business ethics? Locked. after 1st post.

@Kale: WHERE in that quote did freak say that the forums have not changed? WHERE in that quote did freak call you a liar? Life is all about changes and yes, these forums have changed over the years. You and few others see it as a change for the worse and that's fine by me as you are entitled to your opinion. If you are unhappy with this community then why continue to buzz in with nothing more than negative input?

I see the changes around here since I joined in '04 and I do not see what you are in seeing. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. 8)

For the record: I hate tea.

I'm British born and bred, but I still detest tea.

What i'm saying is that constant complaining won't improve the situation.

And no, i don't think its as bad as you say.
I'm not too much of an offtopic reader though, so my perspective may be a bit different.
