@InfOByt3: The icon looks like a smiley face looking at a Cyclops smiley face.

What that intentional?

I agree, I think the 1st mouth needs to tilt a little too - so that it looks like it has 2 eyes rather than 1.

Both speech bubbles look good...... but isn't speech bubbles a little 'old' ?
Maybe something a little more original (and Fresh) is in order ?
Note: I won't be upset if you ignore my comments as I can understand that my opinion has been greatly undermined by my awful effort at an icon

Yeah I was thinking about the same! ^o^
I'm now designing something more original.. and to be honest I don't like the bubble icon much (not to be mean) O_O

@Infobyt3
I like it
Conveys the idea of a messenger (talking/chatting) and is stylish.
A little old yes, been around since comics and silent movies. I'd say they've passed the test of time
cheers

I had thoughts about the messenger icons as well... I like the bubble idea. I mean Yahoo uses the smiley, AIM the running man... MSN the stylized person.... what is left? Butterflies? Kittens? Telephones? Fish?

@rsts
Thank you for your kind words

.
@dontmailme, Irene
Yes, you guys are right, but I couldn't find something more original and still suggest communication...
@DoubleDutch
I'll have a look at it and try to make the faces a bit better.
@Rook
Indeed... That's why I expressed my idea with 2 smileys looking at each other. Something else wouldn't be that suggestive and this is quite unique.
If I have another idea for an icon, I'll make another.

PS: I'm not a fan of skinned apps, but I recognise that many people are. Please design Pure Messenger so that it can run *naked* ie without a skin.
I think I read earlier that it is working without a GUI and I think that is interesting too - many Linux users are anti-GUI and a console mode (simple command line User Interface would be neat too) and could perhaps become a valuable scriptable tool.
I had an idea a while ago (I think it might be original) for users *avatars* to have speech bubbles to show text. That might be a neat looking hook for people. Perhaps the idea could be developed. Maybe there's an open source text to speech synthesizer that could be used...
ok -I'm getting carried away - I'll shut up now.
