i vote for a 3d game. 2D games can be good but if we make a good 3dgame then it will be better than a good 2d game.. if that doesnt make sense:
I vote for a 3d game :)

Just waiting a couple more votes and we'll close the discussion "2d or 3d?". :P

Meanwhile check this sdk (remember the physics engines I mentioned? one was the axis - trueaxis- engine) so i'll let you check it out http://www.trueaxis.com/ - but dont come to me crying about licences please -

Polo: You got PM.
:P

By the way: Is anyone else having problems with firefox (latest build) AND this forums when using the tag buttons? they only apply the texts to the bottom of the text field :? :?

That engine is alot better than ode and it easy implement non of that nasty C crap
at least I they give you the lenghts of the arguments in all the functions

about the licence, I guess it going to be free ware becasue all the good free stuff is for non-comercial use :S
We Don't have to sell it, I mean it isn't going to be anything ground breaking
so I OK with Freeware

I was thinking 2D because we don't have any good 3D support unless we wait for OGRE or use another engine of lower quality. :) But 3D would be fine with me but 2D gets my vote.

@antdizzle: that could be a point, but as we are promised to get an ogre update very soon, and we have bunch of other stuff [gfx, sound effects, STORY, GENRE, leveldesigning, etc etc] to do meanwhile i think 3d is the best. Also we could use a 3.part engine and we are looking at that. But i think ogre will be a good choise when update comes.

We can always prototype with Blitz3D (not that im pulling down PureBasic, because for something Im here and not in blitzbasic.com :P ).

TrueAxis developer is friendly, I believe that if we want to go commercial, we could make a great deal with him as well.

I mean it isn't going to be anything ground breaking
I wont agree with that.

You would only think like that:

1) If you feel it will be just another game
2) If you are not talented enough
3) If you dont have self confidence
4) ETC!

I could be all day listing the reasons.
Put some passion already!

:)

If games really marked your life while you were child (and now too), If you would love to work in serious game development, If you have talent to show up and experience to make the difference, then I'd say join up!.

:x Meanwhile Nintendo is giving a new mustache to Mario and 3D Realms is switching engine tomorrow morning.

I didn't say it was impossible for it to be a great game.

anyway
as far as rendering engines go, take a look through here the search function might be handy ;)

edit: Btw Im working on True axis dll binder if we use, we use, if not the rest of the community will still get a great free physics engine

That physics engine is still in beta and it says the code is not well tested and buggy. Maybe we should use something that is already done like Ode or Tomahawk.

the beta isn't real buggy so as i seen (from my coding and demos i've seen) and the person behind the development seams to fix bugs on demand and fast too..

ode is good but its collision detection isn't worth anything
and tomak (or how ever you spell the engine) is hard to implement its a good engine but the dll is C based meaning it is filled with tons of symbols...
