Im not sure if i understand you comment.
But poverty its not the main reason for crack.
More than once time i receive e mails from people very poor asking for the key for free and i give them (my licence has some comments about this possibilitie), but its not the same thing to ask for something or ask a disccount and stole something.
Cracker mafias are not a kind of Robin Hood but nasty people that get fun stealing someone else work, just go to some cracker/hacker forums and you wont see poor people trying to put their hand on needed software, you will see a bunch of green-hair guys having fun stealing the job of other people, its their hobby
Iv been poor once too and im not agree if some hobbyist guy decide to give my work for free just because he want to have fun...

ricardo: I am in agreement with you, these people exist that have more money than brains, or maybe too much brains and money that are just lazy bums, that make it hard to see the real person that can't aford it, it's a mess, and it would only make things better if everyone was honest. the people that could aford to buy it did always, and the poor people used versions that where handed to them from the authors that would be the most ideal world, that way everyone gets what they need/want, of course you'd have stuck up, unfeeling, money additicted, morons that didn't comply to allowing a poor person to have there software, in the relation to good will, love, and compashion, those types can be given a lession in charaity by the cracking groups.
Or maybe an alotment of say X copys given away free every six months or so, that would cut the piracy raket

, the less someone has to search on a search engine for X crack the better.
I remember back in the old days, if you asked someone for a copy of the tape/disk it would have been considered a friendship breaking thing, this progressed over time thou, to "well just 1 won't matter", then it progressed futher, "Well who cares?, these people have got more money than sence anyway", where are we now... "Ahh rip'em off" we've lost our innocents and sence of morals, which I personally am trying to clame back, I feel guilty everytime I need to use someones software I haven't legitamatly paid for, and it's brought me to tears at some moments.

I wonder what would happen if I asked Microsoft.com for a free copy of windows xp professional 8O

what they'd say

But if I can afford a computer, I can certainly afford a $60 piece of software even though I may have to save up for it.
Amiga 5k,
It isn't quite that simple, because you don't just need the money, you need a credit card. Thanks to a court judgement from the Student Loans Company I had to spend a while without a credit card. Your completely excluded from the online economy. On one occasssion, when I desperately needed some software, an understanding vendor allowed me to send him travellers cheques. It cost extra, but I was grateful. A big company would never have accomodated me.

GedB, you've made some intelligent comments recently: This isn't one of them:

Purebasic and most other softare can be purchased without a credit card. (
http://www.purebasic.com/ordering.php3). It takes longer, yes, but it is possible. About the only thing I can think of right now that is almost impossible to get without a credit card is a rental car, and now there are even ones that specialize in that area.

First: I hate black copies. Copy cats are criminals. BUT: Please no BUIDS. Do you remember BlitzBasic? It's almost dead now, because of it's BUIDS. They were missing at many packages delivered LEGALLY and the users who paid many bucks for the product didn't get their BUIDS so they were not able to use BlitzBasic. BUIDS can kill. I think there are other very effective ways to stop copying.

What are BUIDS

I've never heard of BUIDS

Magi: BUID is like a serial number you need, to access updates (only), it's not used for unlocking the software at all, so those that complained about not getting there BUID only means that they couldn't obtain updates for the software, until they got one.. the BUID basically also allows access to the registered user forums and updates, a BUID might look something like,
XXXX-XXXXXX-XXXX
Where X replace with random number, for example.

BlitzBasic dead? Why does everyone seem to think that?
The BB community is alive and well with new versions released regularly... In fact a whole new product BlitzPlus (basically Blitz2D + GUI and event stuff) was released in Febuary..
I don't think there was anything special about BUIDs. Software has been requiring serial numbers for ages. A BUID is just a serial, nothing more and nothing less. It is required to access updates and such but I don't see a problem with that. I got my BUID when I purchased Blitz3D (and BlitzPlus) and never had problem one with it...
Serials are a hassle for sure but they prevent a lot of people from casually pirating software (like PureBasic).
Not trying to start a Blitz Vs PB flame war. I own and use both - they both kick a lot of A**!

Thanks for that, I was not aware of the term "BUID".

That's because it's specific to BlitzBasic. I believe it stands for "Blitz User Identification"

Blitz Basic is not dead, true. But it is not sold in Germany anymore where it was sold for a long time. BlitzMax (Another edition of Blitz) Release is now much later than expected and BlitzMax is going to be very expensive (about 200 Euro).
Also there were big problems with Blitz users who wanted to Upgrade to Blitz3D. Today it's impossible to upgrade from BB to BB3D.
BB is may be not dead in the UK, but at least in Germany.

merendo, isn't the internet available in Germany?

That's how I learned about and bought PB and BB\BB+ I've never seen either one in a store here in the US, but that didn't stop me
And yes, BUID stands for Blitz User ID and requires virtually no extra work to use. Once you register, you have the option of setting a cookie on your browser so that you don't even have to log in when you go to the update site.
And no, Blitz is not dead...far from it. Blitz and PB make a great combination actually. I use both for different purposes.

@Amiga5k: No, there is no internet available in germany

. Everytime I want to post in this forum, I have to travel to france, austria or switzerland first.
Seriously, do you know 'master creating'? It's a german company which makes games or software. They also sold BitzBasic in Germany as until this time, it was only available in the UK. Otherwise shipping it to foreign countries would be very expensive. Now they don't sell BlitzBasic anymore. Just have a look at:
http://www.blitzbasic.de/welche.shtml and let Uncle Google translate the text
