I personally prefer to have to verify a password before it's used as a password, then if I have misspelt, or more usually pressed an additional key while typing it in (chubby fingers!), It's caught and I can rectify the problem.

Whereas if you don't verify a pw and it's then used, if it is mispelt, then you have a fun job of finding how you misspelt it.

I know this instance is only light protection on your part, but it's nice to be thorough.

A pair of fangles socks draped over the keyboard would be enough to keep the computer safe, no password protection required! Who would go near a computer stinking of rotting fish?

Trouble with that, is when you then have to use the computer again, you have to get a new keyboard as the old one's been melted.

That's a great idea. I regularly walk around 7.5 kilometers to go shopping and the socks (and the jocks!!) can protect anything, they are positively feral!!!

Trouble with that, is when you then have to use the computer again, you have to get a new keyboard as the old one's been melted.

That's okay because fangles doesn't know how to use a keyboard anyhow. He just repeatedly headbutts the monitor until he passes out and dreams of hamsters, lots of hamsters. That's heaven for fangles!

Since I type in passwords in 4 different languages, I have learned never to get them wrong. And since I started to protect the keyboard with the socks that srod mentioned, I no longer have a keyboard to protect, problem solved!!!

Mind you, had I put his underpants at the front door, we would not be alive having this conversation and the whole password issue would have been moot!!!!!

P.s. When my backup is finished, I'll put the extra fields in.

true, I am using a block and tackle with lead type letters and re-arranging them with my trained ferrets. And I have wet, moist, squishy dreams of hamsters!!! Moo!!

Update 06/04/2010

Changed: You now have to type in a new password and then the confirmation password to proceed when entering a new password at first program startup. This is no different to *most* commercial software. This IS NOT NECESSARY when unlocking the program, not ever.

Added: You can now press ENTER on all password fields to proceed to check or save passwords and move on to other fields. You can also use the TAB key or the mouse.

Fixed: The bug is gone from the unlock window!!!

Added: An Asynchronous time display. In English that means that the clock won't stop when you do other things.

Changed: The number versioning system is shortened. program stands at v1.00 so if your database isn't working, rename it to "PeriTek sitelist v1.00.ptk' and it will be fine.

Changed: Timer properly cleared off the title bar when turned off.

Hope it all works!!! (I need my beauty sleep. Shaddap srod!!)

Please restrain them as well, I don't want them to come looking for me

Just trying a few things.
One thing I think you might like to add, is after running prog again, password should be required to look at entries, or open fully.

If for example, I quit out and someone else started the prog, they don't need a password to look at the entries.

Would make it more secure.

You were right, I hadn't even thought of that as nobody was using my program in a real environment. But now, my mate is using it in a computer store on a memory key and who knows who could get to it if he let it lying around.

So I put the startup password window in and also remembered to update the titles of the various unlocking windows in.

Upload the changed exe, link in first post as usual.

Thanks yrreti. I have yet to pull my finger out and update that background (lighten it so more text shows through) and add the extra pages. I'm not a great fan of making web pages much:):)

Download the latest update as per my reply to Perkin's concerns about startup security, they have been addressed.

Website has also been updated but the web editor I used has somehow stuffed the reference to the background graphic damnit.
