their machines were that good and robust, they never had the least problem.
after a while the company ran broke, because they did not sell service or spareparts at all.
Have you ever really had a calculator repaired? I think this is an urban myth.

I pretty much agree with all of that and conversely some companies fail even though they have good products and good people.

For example in Britain it is illegal for companies to trade without public liability insurance. With this latest trend of no win no fee solicitors suing companies for large sums of money because one of their dim-witted employees stubbed a toe whilst at work, or something equally as silly, the cost of public liability policies has rocketed.

I have a friend who is an insurance broker and she told me that she knew of several heavy engineering companies who had had to cease trading because insurers had simply refused to offer them terms or had offered them terms but at ten or twenty times the previous years premium. This was not because the companies had suffered any claims but just because their industry sector was deemed high risk.

I thought he said that he was between school and uni so I wasn't thinking he had started a programming career.

I'm not a programmer so I guess often assume that others are hobbyists too... 8)

I work as a programmer this year, i will go to uni next year.

I program about half of the time a day, the rest of the time i do other stuff (but of course as i also is the responsible for the software i am often running between the two when something bugs or reacts like its not supposed too. Which happens :P )
