One last thing... Could you produce a simple exe from the C and C# code for us to give our times (I ask you as your project is almost finished)? Thank you. Based on these facts, maybe Fred would try your ideas.

I made a mistake with the C# stuff, for some reason I wasn't getting a release build earlier (differences in IDE...).
Summary (these are average values over a few runs):
PB 128ms
PB with modded asm as described above 116 ms
C/C++ 40ms
C# 47ms
