You were pretty evenly matched for most of the game; and a damn site better organised at the back!
A shame you didn't tuck away at least one of the chances you had.

Some chances there. A bit scrappy at times.
Pre-Match, I really did think we could at least draw Brazil and maybe tip a win.

Post-Match? Bring on the next one! I think we can win!
We gain experience with all this stuff and that is only good, we get better. (in Oceania group we had NZ and zillions of islands to play against. Now in Asia we get some more battle hardening!)

So, I was right at the beginning. It will be Australia vs. Croatia to decide who will go into the second round. I'm sure it's going to be a very good match.

It will be a good match.
If Croatia were to win, Australia could consider that 3 possible Australians were still in the WC.
When Australia does win, Croatia can consider that 5 possible Croatians are still in the cup.
PS: If Brazil play as they did -v- Croatia and Australia, Japan could sneak in a win. Wouldn't that be something.

Beating Brazil and getting eliminated in first round - bittersweet!

Yup. Either way, both countries will win and that's a good reason to have some nice cold beer ready in the fridge.

It's a bit OT I know, but I wanted to ask wether you guys get to see videos of our country and the cities where the plays take place. I mean when the Olympic games where in Australia all television channels also showed some movies on the country itself.

Hi Nik,
We do here. We have excellent coverage by an excellent TV station called SBS, which is not a commercial station and which is dedicated to providing "foreign language" content and etc.
So we get uninterrupted coverage and, if we missed it (being from 10pm to 4am), a full repeat.
Between, we are learning a lot about Germany. For example, we got a look at marzipan production after Togo-Switzerland and before Ukraine-Saudi Arabia.
* coldies are ready *

Heya oryaaaaa!
Japan must beat Brazil 2:0!
Australia must beat Croatia 2:0!
Table:
Code: Select all
TEAM Pts GF GA diff
Australia 6 5 3 2
Brazil 6 3 2 1
Japan 4 3 2 1
Croatia 1 0 3 -3
Nothing personal intended but this way Australia tops the table!
Mind you, with Group E any of 3 can go through. Would rather see Australia play Italy, then USA, then Ghana, least preference Czech.
Pull-out supplement in today's paper explaining Soccer (football) so that all Aussies can understands things like offside, strikers, 4:4:2, the ball is round, you kick into the goal and not over the bar to get a goal, and etc - this way we can have more "experts", which is important. Spectators can participate without looking too foolish! This is actually a big advance for the code!
A cartoon (reflecting reality)
Panel - Tennis
.. Hewitt wins Queens - Polite applause
Panel - Golf
.. Ogilvy wins US open - Polite applause
Panel - Soccer
.. Brazil beats Australia - Massive applause -
Celebrations, cries of YES! because it wasn't a hiding and we can still get through.
(Sports players and teams are judged on heart, not only results. Lose well and be a hero, win like a wimp and get caned.)
More big names from the other three codes emerge to knock the code, calling it a flash in the pan, one day wonder, etc. They're worried. Australia will getting more people keen on the world game. More youngsters playing in paddocks and in junior teams. More sponsors. More support generally. And this starts to pay off big time in 10 to 12 years from now.
Go Socceroos!
