PureBasic 5.20 beta 20 is out
Re: PureBasic 5.20 beta 18 is out
That's a good idea, but we would need then a way to login automatically on your private account to get the file and it sounds like a security headache. About being trusted OS X dev, I will see what can be done.
Re: PureBasic 5.20 beta 18 is out
As a registered Mac OS X developer, you could also put PB (demo) into AppStore, if it can pass the checks - maybe reaching wider markets.Fred wrote:About being trusted OS X dev, I will see what can be done.

Just my take on this.

I would rather prefer the full install approach as it is, because if your installed programing directory ever get's hosed somehow. For LTS it would help to install just the latest bug fixes, so only changed libs get downloaded and installed within the current installation directory.

+ 1 in support for what yrreti wrote. I prefer the full install approach as well.
Current configurations:
Ubuntu 20.04/64 bit - Window 10 64 bit
Intel 6800K, GeForce Gtx 1060, 32 gb ram.
Amd Ryzen 9 5950X, GeForce 3070, 128 gb ram.

Re: PureBasic 5.20 beta 18 is out
It could also download and install the full thing every time. Just automatic, like running temp/update.exe, quit IDE, download and install automatically, restart IDE.yrreti wrote:Danilo wrote:I would rather prefer the full install approach as it is, because if your installed programing directory ever get's hosed somehow. For LTS it would help to install just the latest bug fixes, so only changed libs get downloaded and installed within the current installation directory.

Just installed Cinema 4D R15 today on MacOSX. On first startup it checked for updates and displayed a dialog. Then it automatically downloaded and installed the
updates and restarted the program while doing that.
It is very comfortable, so I thought it would be nice if PB had automatic updates.

AppStore programs on Windows/WindowsPhone/WindowsTablets and MacOSX are also automatically updated. I just love it, because no manual install is required anymore. Everything automated.
Re: PureBasic 5.20 beta 18 is out
But if you use only one IDE for more as one compiler (release, beta, lts ...) and for x86 and x64 you have a
problem with automatic
This require different dirs and so on.

just nope. It's not a fart app for your smartphone but a development tool.Danilo wrote: It is very comfortable, so I thought it would be nice if PB had automatic updates. :)

Re: PureBasic 5.20 beta 19 is out
I'm beginning to see that this is the best beta upgrade idea yet since I started using PB years ago.
In this method a lot of bugs get addressed and fixed, and we don't have to wait until the next version
for the fix. And improvements get added easily. This is really great. Thanks team

Development tools like Xcode, Visual Studio and Netbeans have the ability to check for and install updates+fixes automatically,Poshu wrote:just nope. so I don't understand why you are referring to fart apps. You just don't want auto-update possibility for PureBasic, understood.
Re: PureBasic 5.20 beta 18 is out
@Danilo
Hey Danilo.
I too, just don't want the auto update possibility. There is a vast difference in sizes between Visual Studio and PB. It take me less than 2 minutes
to uninstall and install a new version of PB, while it takes considerably longer (waaay longer) with VS. VS embeds itself everywhere and requires waaaay more
attention than our beloved PB.
During a VS update I encontered a write error, which resulted in a complete 'coerced' uninstall and thereby reinstallation. I found it extremely annoying.
PB is small, fast and extremely powerfull and features like auto fixes and updates will demand much more attention from the PB team.
Attention which is better served by making us happy by enhancing PB.
I do love the 'Check for updates' feature, though.
Best regards
Peter
