Zach, would you and all of the people requesting the feature be prepared to pay Fred for such a service? Fred isn't Microsoft with unlimited money in unlimited sized pockets ;). To be fair, for the price of the product (where you never have to pay him more money for updates) you get a pretty damn good support package for they pocket money amount of dollars he asks for the PB purchase price.

there are thousands of free and paid file hosting services out there. Google, Microsoft spring to mind with google drive, skydrive or Box...???

Maybe. Depending on how it was setup and what it would cost the users.

But, we're talking about source code here. Text that supposedly compresses easily anyway.

I'm pretty sure a forum script that is configurable probably exists.. Hell, if he wanted to take donations to hire someone to write one with specific functionality I'd donate to that too, even.

But its pretty easy to mitigate bandwidth and storage costs by restricting such attachments, as well as the ability to download them, to registered forum users. And again, restricting the file types and extensions.

Free hosting is unreliable in the long run, it could be gone, inactive accounts could be wiped, the service could go away. Allowing source code attachments to the forum is the next best thing to setting up a centralized Repo and investing time and energy into getting the community to use it as a whole.

Im happy to post modules to the forum but I'm not sure what size would be considered too large.

Thank...perhaps; I don't really care.
Anything with any kind of negative...NO.

One of the highest scoring StackOverflow contributors (i.e. top 3%) wrote up a scathing review of their scoring system...in fact, he claims to have left SO over it, because it encouraged what he considered undesirable behavior. First, most people only Thank you for giving them code, rather than pointing them in a direction to try. Also, if you say anything controversial (i.e. Goto is not evil, and does have a useful application), some people start giving you negatives to all of your posts, no matter what you say. (He used his Goto post to show it.) And three months after leaving, his score was up higher than ever.

[sarcasm]LuCiFeR[SD], Fred isn't Microsoft???
Wow. OK. Thanks for that. It really puts things in perspective, doesn't it?[/sarcasm]

About the net I see enthusiast forum sites dedicated to sports, patriot survivalism, and precious metals to name but a few, that allow members to post attachments.
Some sites don't even restrict access to the contents to members only!

However I am not expecting Fantaisie Software to provide (the expected) service out of generosity.
I think that allowing attached files would be a good business investment for Fantaisie Software.

It should be apparent to everyone by now that a vibrant user community forum is good for Fantaisie Software and the individual PureBasic users.
Heck, if it were not for the members here, the compiler would only be a mere shadow of what it is.
IMO the reasons given so far, for not supporting the users file attachments, are inadequate and antiquated.
And the reasons given for supporting local attachments among users seem logical and persuasive.

Its a no-brainer. Allow people to post permanent awesome code (better than C++ in some cases) and allow people to give them positive feedback (disallow negative). Thats a win for the developers of PB, a win for people learning, and a win for contributors who enjoy a challenge to produce something better or never been done before in PB.

It's unfortunate, various posts where images shown by linking off-site, even to Image hosting places eventually gets removed. Various PB posts with images, the images no longer exists.
