I put all the questions in Google Docs because it offers more functionality, is easier to setup, has reports and users don't see the answers so they don't get biased in some way. Maybe this way even the members of the German and French can join it... Here it is:

Please don't answer the questions yet (already 5 did). I think first we should add some questions, so we can finally have a good survey of the PureBasic programmers. When it's ready it will be announced in a new thread.

I added questions for the age, programming experience and since when PureBasic is used. I also added to "company internal" to "programming intention". Let me know if you have suggestions or other questions you would like to see. I'm very open for your suggestions!
Maybe it should be possible to rate the current state of the main libraries (3D, sound, image, 2DDrawing, network, math, gadgets) and other things such as the IDE, GUI development, speed, compiler quality, cross-platform etc. as well?

Internal Commercial - I write custom business software for companies, and they are completely unique, so they would never go on sale (I get paid for the length of time it's taken me), but neither is it for private/personal use.

My rating for the window version of those libs would be very different to the linux version and the Mac version. The same may apply to other questions if you make a poll go too much into detail. Somebody who heavily uses the network/math/gadgets library, might not use the 3D library at all or vice versa.

I would "probably" add a question about the general programming use of PB. For example a commercial programmer might use 3 languages regularly, spending 60+ hours a week developing software but only 15% of that time might be PB.

But the biggest problem of this poll is likely the audience who participates in it. Finding a way to reach a broader audience, would be great. A way to do that might be to iron the poll out, so Fantasie software see's real use in it and then use the blog/rss/mailing lists to reach more PB users to participate in it. As a motivation to participate in that, somebody could donate someting like a few software licenses and put every participant who voluntarily enter's their email adress into a raffle.

A popup requester on first launch of the next PB 4.61 beta/RC which asks for participation in this poll, might be another idea to reach more people.

A different kind of poll might be very interesting for all those who decide to download PB to give it a try and later uninstall it without buying it. Could be very useful data to enhance the product and thereby the revenue

A question for the usage time of PureBasic is a good idea. How would you state the question though? Hours per week or or month? What makes most sense to ask?

Well, it's possible to make those questions optional. I'll think about it.

Sending e-mail to the customers with a link to the online user survey is a common way
to reach all registered customers, if a company is interested in this data.

What is the goal of an user survey by users?

That way users that don't read on the forums could also be reached...all the others that don't care
about a survey just ignore it.

What should the PureBasic team focus on?

Of the current options, and compared to the current list of answers, my own and several others have listed a proper GUI designer, or better gui and code integration, which are really both sides of the same coin. Would that be listed as "Application Development" or should that be branded on it's own? Or just left as "Other"?
