[solved] massive login fails, unknown behaviour

For everything that's not in any way related to PureBasic. General chat etc...

Re: Board software: Problems with login!

Again, and it sucks. So does the "forums.purebasic.com" vs. "purebasic.fr" thing. :|
If any of you native English speakers have any suggestions for the above text, please let me know (via PM). Thanks!

Did I mention that I don't like "mods" who delete and/or edit posts?
Even if it's just the title and it may say kinda the same thing with different wording.
A short note would have been nice. Probably asked to much, because you're so busy otherwise...

Additional: Changing the title won't get Fred's attention any more or less.
Also because he already acknowledged this issue.
The title is also wrong in its content. The behaviour is obviously well known by so many users.
Just the reasons are not and probably never will be.
Also, if someone has the same problems he might search the board for the error message.
And the old title would have sprung the user directly in the eye, because it contained a part of that message.
But mods don't need to give a reason for their doing so whatever...

I had the same problem logging in today.
But I cant' use the "I forgot my password" link because my old email address is broken. :(
Any hint?

Nope. For the future: Make sure you'll keep your email adresses up2date.
Now all you can to is wait for Fred or someone to fix it.

Very sorry TomS, I asked Rings to change the title of this post (though he did not use the title I suggested).

The term 'Board Software' does not suggest an issue with Forum Login. It is important that people hit with this issue can contribute to the same post, we can help each other as much as possible and the number of messages is a measure of the size of the problem. Also, when Fred has a fix applied, he will have only one port-of-call, this post, to make a list of those Users that need their accounts resurrected.

If it sounds simple, you have not grasped the complexity.

No need to be sorry.
It's perfectly fine with me if a mod changes the title of a thread. But a short note would have been nice.
Since it doesn't even say "Last edited by mod xy", if a mod edits a post it looks as if the title were my words. That's never a good thing.
Maybe you asked him before I responded to your post.
Because I actually changed the title after your hint about the title.
Or maybe you didn't like my second title, either. Doesn't really matter.

You have a valid point that this thread resembles a list of users who may need to have their account resurrected. But most of us could do it on our own by using the reset-password-method.
So there's no need to post the same thing as the person above.
It's already clear that this affects many people. More or less randomly?
So any more posts saying "yeah that happened to me, too." And then several hours later "It happened again" are imho redundant.

Also, this thread may show which users actually lost their account, because the reset-password-method didn't work for some reason or another.
But there's no guarantee, that these people will get their accounts back.
Any account could easily be hijacked now.
Look at the memberlist and sort the list by "last login". Pick a name, that hasn't been active for several weeks, create a new user called anyname2 and claim you got locked out and password retrieval won't work.
I'm just saying this as an information for you and as a warning for Fred to not give out new passwords or change email adresses light-heartedly.

....I think the 'yeah that happened to me, too.' messages are OK, at the very least you are then on a list for Fred to peruse when a fix is found. Strangely, I was able to login normally just now........

Maybe change the title of the thread to include (solved) so other people know they can login again.
