srod, no, nothing's wrong with this thread as such, just future fear...

I agree with that.
I remember reading on another forum somewhere (might have been the other PB!

) that someone refused to visit these forums anymore because of the mud-slinging, nappie wearing, handbag swinging type behaviour which this individual claimed permeated these forums!
Their loss as far as I'm concerned. These forums are by far and way the most active (despite josku_X's claims!) and helpful, and there's some very clever chappies around here.
Now, time to change that nappie...

First, I think that a discussion of forum etiquette is really not 'off-topic' and is probably better dealt with in 'general discussion'. And I think that all the silly stuff is perfectly fine, even fun, if confined to the off-topic section. I really don't enjoy seeing a bunch of Hasselhof crap in the coding questions topics for example, and at times main-section discussions that started out topical and sensible will deteriorate into stupid joking or mudslinging. That's something we should all try to avoid imho.
Here are some posting devices that will make me click 'stop watching':
- item repeated all caps for emphasis if the other fellow is disagreeing
- item repeated bold for emphasis if the other fellow is disagreeing
- Use of little tiny colored fonts to make rude or off-color comments
The eye-rolling smiley has its place, but try to remember it can be a bit strong medicine - it should be used sparingly as it can injure a fragile ego, and with a couple thousand posters/lurkers, there's bound to be a few of those.

If we all used Lynx for web browsing, we wouldn't have all this unneeded trouble.

I think a major key here is to just not take things on the internet too seriously... I mean.... its the internet!
Bring on the french insults! I may not be from france but my origin is! I'll stick with fred. You boot me.... and I'll grab him and drag him down with me!

Maybe we sould have a fourm where the only language allowed is pig-latin. That way no one will be offended or bothered because then the words will then be in a completly neutral language and any translation will be in the mind of the beholder.

Oi!!! Us pigs are seriously offended by the lack of royalty payments for the use of our language. We invented gruntese in latin, now called pig latin and filed a patent and we want money damn it!!

Oi, none of that Dare, you lay pig. Get yer hairy snout outta my trough. I paid a premium for this slop to the farmer down the road.
I suppose I could have got worse slop listening to the pollies in canberra. At least what's in my trough won't infest me!!

lol.
Reminds me of a (cleaned up version) of a Rugby song. One verse:
I was two sheets to the wind and lay down in the gutter.
A little piggy came along, and lay down by my side.
A lady passing by was heard to quietly mutter
- “You can always tell who boozes
By the company he chooses.”
And the little pig got up and walked away
So as long as we keep our snouts in your (correction - our) trough, we keep our noses clean and our reputations intact.

Damn the inhumanity of it all, I've got a reputation?? Was I there when it happened?? Why didn't anyone tell me sooner, I could have corrected it.
Now I'm going to throw a scene, get rich from the fiming and retire in disgust at how easily bought I am.
*sniff*****
