Heya Thefool,

So would it be true to say you are a FireFox supporter?

I've tried IE, Opera, K-Meleon, FireFox, Mozilla for extended periods each, and NS briefly. Ran with FireFox for ages, liked it, thought it was the best.

But since installing XP I find it sluggish, and it crashes from time to time. It has even hung my comp a few times. Everything except k-Meleon outperformed it. (k-Meleon is also sluggish and crashworthy).

So now I am using Mozilla (still safer than IE) and fastest on my setup.

In one of your posts you said something about setting FireFox up properly. What exactly needs to be done to set it up properly?

this has almost all of the tweaks... (yes, i actually DID set up firefox right, and it's still slower than IE on my system)

Okay, so name a few so I can see this for myself...

This is just BULLSHIT -- it doesn't crash when I view PDFs. Just because
someone has a crappy/corrupted system doesn't mean we all do!

Compared to IE, yes -- because IE is PART OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM
and thus always partly in memory! If IE was to load from scratch every
time it was loaded, then it too would be slower to start!

I think I lost concentration out of frustration when I made that comment.

Even if that's true, the updates to Firefox have been faster than anything
Microsoft have done for IE. So any fixes get done in a matter of days,
compared to months. This can be seen for yourself if you look at the
past fixes compared to IE's past fixes.

Also, there simply isn't much to exploit compared to IE. Most of IE's stuff
are ActiveX exploits, which, as I've pointed out, Firefox doesn't have. You
can't exploit something that doesn't exist.

No. Firefox has lots of features via extensions... you only install the stuff
you want. Firefox does more for me than IE currently does.

Anyway, I'm a happy Firefox user on Windows and the only thing I have a problem with is WindowsUpdate which wants to run ActiveX.
The last time I ran WindowsUpdate, it complained my security settings were too high and told me to reduce them

seriously. I belive in all PB's posts, and i belive that your system does have a fault somewhere. i run 4 machines [2 windows pc's, 1 linux pc & one laptop], the linux and 1 of the pc's are mine and the rest is my familys. i just installed firefox on them, removed the IE icon now they use it without complaining same with openoffice! i just have to help a bit now and then but it works!

but there is something wrong with your install. firefox crashed 1 time here, but thats nothing compared to internet explorer..

good, you havent tried firefox so you cant tell that internet explorer is faster. i would recommend you to download it. you are on 1mbit and if you want to use 5 minutes [download AND installation AND learning to use] of your live that will save you billions of seconds in waiting time and system restarts, try it

Okay, will reinstall again, using tips from aszid's link and see if it goes okay. Loved FF until recently. Then was sad ...

All the browsers are great, we have all different needs.

I read about a test between IE and FF in some magazine, it said IE was more secure. (but it still use FF, I like the interface)
