would it be possible for us to submit completed games or projects for publishing? I only have 2 fully completed projects, but they are available for free ... I just want to see my name in lights :)
Code is good... Its an international language.

Fash - Thanks! :D I'll be bugging you soon enough for music on the upcoming books too!

Waffle - I don't control what goes on the distribution CD. You'd need to contact George Bray at Idigicon about that ;) (george@idigicon.com).

If you check his website, you'll see this (dated end of October):

# First 14 Chapters of the PureBasic book are complete. So that's 4 chapters into Section 2. Had some hold ups, but things are back underway now.

So it looks like it is coming along.

As far as I know, the book is basically a 'port' of his blitz book. Take a look at the chapter names for the blitz book and you'll see what is in the purebasic book....

Hey Krylar!

Nice to have you here, too (seems like a lot of us own and use both packages!)

I was starting to get a little disheartened\annoyed with Blitz because of apparent lack of updates\change. Have you had a chance to look at BlitzMax, now that it's Finally out (MacOS release, Win32 & Linux beta)? The jury is still out, but it definately has features I'd like to see in PB 4.0.

Personally, I think PB and Blitz have always made a good match. Don't you? ;)

Hey all,

I'd replied to this before but it looks like the messageboard downtime lost it. I don't remember what I said exactly, but it goes something like:

The book will have some of the same fundamentals covered as most any programming book will, just the nature of this type of project. But instead of a 2D Space game, I'll be doing a mini-side-scroller as the main game.

I've already converted some of my BB side-scroller code to PB and everything is working swell so far. Also, all of the fundamentals are done in the book (17 chapters done!), so now I'm working on the actual side-scroller and the text on how to code one up in PB. After that, I'll ship the book off to Idigicon for publishing.

I'm guessing it's still a couple of months away, but I'm trying to get it done as fast as possible. I just want to make sure it covers what it needs to before I send off for publication.

Thanks!

Book update:

The game for the book is done <whew!>. Only thing left to add is a futuristic-007 tune that Fash_FD is hooking up for it. Fash did the two songs for the game on the BB book...if you're looking for sweet tunes for your game, you should talk to him! :D

I'll put the game up for download as soon as the music's in, so everyone can get a taste for it.

Now it's just a matter of writing the details on how the game was made, from a-to-z. That, believe it or not, is the easy part. So I'll be switching my eve's and weekend's to writing about HOW it was done instead of coding it. Assuming I don't get hit with 50 other projects, I would imagine that I'll be handing the book over to Idigicon for publication within a few weeks. (here's hoping!)

All the best,

Excellent news Krylar,

Been looking forward to the release of this book as I'd like to try my hand at making a game with PureBasic.

Hope it's out as soon as possible.

Thanks for the interest in the book. Hope it meets your expectations when you get it.

I don't think there's a pre-order option for it, but I'll ask Idigicon. Anyway, as soon as its released, I'll be posting here about it, so everyone will know soon enough.

All the best!

Krylar, good luck with your book project!

One question: will your book go into the details of the current PureBasic version, or is it based on a prior one?
cheers,
