PureGDK Open Beta - DarkBasic for PureBasic
The demo for PureGDK is out and can be downloaded here:
http://puregdk.com/index.php?f=download
The final version of PureGDK is not compatible with the beta. Because the beta has changed structure several times there is no uninstaller for the beta releases. is recommended that you uninstall and delete your PureBasic and DarkBasic Professional installation directories before installing the demo or the final release.
PureGDK will be up for sale on PureGDK.com by next week and then from The Game Creators store shortly thereafter.

PureGDK will be released on PureGDK.com first, sometime next week. TGC will start selling it shortly thereafter. I can't tell you if the stand-alone will be released at the same time because of how its licensed with DBP. TGC wants to do some sort of special licensing for it but I don't know if that will actually happen.
I've made some quick fixes for Windows Vista. The demo has been updated on the PureGDK website with these changes.
PureGDK 1.0.1
=============
Bug Fixes:
- Improved the flag names for dbGetImage() so that they are more consistent with other PureGDK flags
- Fixed a bug in the installer which caused it to complete on Windows Vista even though it failed to perform a critical operation
- Fixed a bug in the compiler which caused compiling to fail under Windows Vista
- Fixed a runtime error caused by OpenDBWnd() in Windows Vista
- Fixed a rare bug that would cause a crash due to how PureGDK stored runtime error strings
The compatibility issues with Windows Vista did not affect executables compiled successfully on other Windows operating systems.

So it is a good idea to write this small info into your posts so that all useres know that he must have a DarkBasic lizence.

I've made note of this in several announcements, it's listed on the website in the introduction page, the download page, and the order page. The installer will also inform you that you must have DarkBasic Professional installed prior to installing PureGDK (unless you have the stand-alone version).nicolaus wrote:Sorry but i can test the demo. Thanks,
nico

I've asked Lee to update the demo for PureGDK more than once. His response is simply that TGC is focusing its resources elsewhere but that there will be an update in the near future.nicolaus wrote:Ok.

Once the trial is updated I'll replace the demo on PureGDK.com with a stand-alone version that includes the PureGDK and DBP but it's out of my hands until then.
This is because DarkBasic Professional still requires the DirectX 9 runtime. I don't know why Microsoft didn't include it with Vista.
Here is a link to the runtime library:

Thanks for the quick response. The error message should be changed for Vista then, or most Vista users will probably just move on - thinking the product is buggy or incompatible with Vista and that would harm your salesMistrel wrote:This is because DarkBasic Professional still requires the DirectX 9 runtime. ps: a bit weird - Vista is not listed amoung the supported OS for that download but there is a remark about the WGA requirement for vista users for it.
I agree with you completely but this is an issue with DarkBasic Professional and not PureGDK. I'll make a bug report on the DBP forum about this.
I can assure you that the DirectX 9 runtime will work fine on Vista. It's how I solved this problem for myself.
I'm very interested to get some feedback from you. I've only tested PureGDK on Vista 32-bit. PureGDK just ended beta testing and I think I was the only person who tested it for Vista.
And just to warn you, the pre-compiled examples on PureGDK.com may crash on exit on Vista. This was fixed in PureGDK 1.0.1 but I haven't recompiled the examples just yet.
