Can i run linux software not included in the CD? PureBasci, per example?

Knoppix is downloadable with a fast connection.
My first all night downoad (english) was apparently OK, but the CD failed; then I downloaded it again (german - you can change the lang) and it works fine.
Knoppix is a Debian Based distro, so you can run most (may be all) Linux software.
Im beginning with Linux, and found it no easy but interesting.
This week they released the new update 3.4
