I know there's plenty of similar games, and I don't want to distract you from developing PB, but I hope you saw Jets 'n Guns and Ikaruga

I played Ikaruga and a lot of the old school shooters (R-Type, Darius, Xenon 2, Lord of Thunder, Last resort ...) but also new one (X-2, Sine Mora, ...). I will check Jets 'n Guns, it looks cool.

I enjoyed playing Summer Games by Epyx on the C64, the graphics and gameplay were pretty good for that type of game.
Impossible Mission and Spy vs Spy were also a couple of my favourites.

Being that you seem interested (good sign!) also take a look to this "3D" stuff: Sin and Punishment (N64) , and its sequel (Sin & Punishment: Star Successor) for Wii

PS: are you beginning to understand why my neighbors' kids are so happy? :P

I enjoyed the good old Amiga games (Hybris, Another World, Elite, F-18...) but the game that I found most mind-blowing and disruptive was without a doubt: Doom 8)

I haven't seen it on Electronica-60, but I've played it on Electronica-85 several times.
And of course digger.

Participated in time trial competitions. How long will someone actually last blindly on an unadapted XT version running on x286.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Duke Nukem, Heretic, Hexen etc.
I remember you could build your own levels even on Mac (Duke Nukem)
