I also wondered why I much prefer Basic over C and came to the same conclusion. I prefer the words over symbols and in general I find it difficult to follow logic when constructed with { }

Yes, i am :)
I've posted the same question on the powerbasic and xojo forum but, as you can see, the feedback on this forum overcome the others :)
I've planned to test PB in the next days. Perhapse i will test xojo too, i'm sorry that powebasic does not have a demo version, it seems good too.

Thank you all for the precious replies :)

FYI, in regard to 64 bit and PowerBasic, they have recently (July 2014) made a post about that:

http://www.powerbasic.com/support/pbfor ... stcount=36

Sure it's just talk for now and without a timeline, but at least is something. They will have to do it sooner or later to remain a viable alternative.

If you are used to MS Access, VBA, and its form and query designers, than that's an integrated experience you will not get with PB.
If you just want to work with databases, not necessarly Access or more than just one, spikey already offered you a good panorama, but I think you'll have to invest some time in creating some kind of framework initially to let you work in a way similar to the one you are used to.
No MS style wizards / helpers here.

About the "speaking italian" part: if you want to say or ask something in italian for some reason you can send me a PM.

mau_rizio wrote:Hi all,
this is my first post on this forum and i hope this is the right place to post.

I've a good knowledge of ms Access (from 2 to 10) which is my primary development platform, an average knowledge of vb6 and a very little one of vb.net.
I'm searching for an altenative to Access for some projects that it cannot handle in a good way, for example a form with a lot of subforms.
After some searching i'm looking at PureBasic, PowerBasic and Xojo/RealBasic.
So i'm asking if PureBasic is a good choice to work with databases and why it's better than other basics.

Thank you
maurizio

PS: i'm sorry for the "stupid question" and for the poor english
PPS: is there anyone speaking italian?
Hello.
I came here from VB 6.
It is a different environment from a visual rad but with the staff which PureBasic includes, at the end of the day, you will be a better programmer.
A visual rad (like Xojo) seems to be perfect at the beginning, but after some time you will realize that it is less powerfull.
In Purebasic the quality matters, not the size.
I also tried the PowerBASIC (version 8 if i remmber well) and RealBasic.
I suggest PureBasic. period
Regards.
