Wow - I would never leave a PC connected to the internet unattended overnight

My desktop PC is always on, and it is connected to the internet through my home network; couldn't turn it off unless I disconnect from the network, or lock the firewall.
In any case, it wouldn't make much of a difference whether the PC is attended or not, because if there's going to be any sort of infiltration, we wouldn't know it even if we're staring at the monitor. All we could do is hope that the installed security software is doing its job.

Hi Folks...
Over the period since I started checking I have left the phone tethered and the laptop running, with my logging program. It looks like the daily usage for a handful of calls to the amateur radio call sign database plus 24 hour overheads (I assume there are some) amount to between 3 and 5 MB per day. From my point of view this is reasonable and keeps me well within my monthly data volume cap.
I'm now going to enable access to the wifi on the laptop and let it catch up with what the big bad world is doing.
Best regards from a wet south east England
