Forum should support file attachments as PHPBB does

Everything else that doesn't fall into one of the other PB categories.

No wonder he's handy with a mouse.

EDIT: Oh, I just noticed I wrote "cat" instead of "can". That explains a lot. :)

+1 to the original request.

Currently, PB resources are very fragmented. There are probably over a dozen sites with multiple samples (Kudos to them), but for every one of them, we will have dead links when the site owner loses interest or something else happens that causes it to be unmaintained.

Just look at all of the dead links in the Tips and Tricks section. Some of the dead links are only a few years old. File attachments would fix that issue with future posts.

This. THIS

Nothing pisses me off more than not being able to actually find something I might be interested in, because no serviceable downloads exist

Oooooohhh....

Anyway some people managed to keep files online by themselves for years. Superpowers ? Iron will ? Some planning ? A little care ? So it seems already possible if you want it, at no further cost for the PB team.
In 100 years probably even the files on the forum would not be still online, or relevant.

I think so too, I was disappointed when most of the code I tried to download has been missing.

Also this forum needs a 'like' option that doesn't bump a thread. People need to be thanked for their work without the thankers getting nerdrage from people who don't like thread bumps.

Good idea. This could help highlighting exceptionally good/funny/helpful threads!
If any of you native English speakers have any suggestions for the above text, please let me know (via PM). Thanks!

That is the last thing the forum needs.
Best wishes to the PB community. Thank you for the memories. ♥️

I assume you mean because it would make it become like Facebook, I actually meant a "thank" option.

That's what a private message is good for isn't it? ;)

A 'like' button or ±vote counter would be a helpful variable to consider when reviewing coding questions or tips and tricks. Think StackOverflow instead of Facebook. This is a programmer's forum after all.

The forums are already very large and needs a lot of time to backup (we do it every day), so having attachements will make this almost impossible and really harder to manage.

But Fred, this is true only for non-sources. The PB sourcecode will be included in the post anyway.

Source can be compressed, so it's not an issue. Data like image can't and can eat space very quickly.

I'm pretty sure you could quickly find a plugin that can be configured how you like.

Restrict file size, restrict file extension, require attachment approval if you want (someone tries to sneak something by, delete)

Well clearly this is not the case with all the broken links to downloads and dead sites on this forum...

I've thought about launching a repository site from time to time, but the biggest problem is getting people to use it - and still if I can no longer pay for hosting one day, that leaves everyone screwed.
