Whoa! Freaky coincidence, or is there something devilishly sinister about that logo?
You're on your own Shield!

Two very good ideas there!

Thanks guys, although it'd be great to hear what Fred has to say.

of course:
in the old Greek prophecies ( when PureBasic
Z secret revealed, a star will shine in the skies)
today news:
Massive 'Potentially Hazardous' Asteroid To Fly Over Earth (And You Can Watch Live On The Internet)

in fact i believe now strongly in the TI-994A explanation because it is technical, and concise even a 300 pages book can't fully describe the symbol. while my original opinion are philosophical . but remember all the universe was extremely simple just one point before the big bang. something happened to that point and its symmetry broken and we are here because of that gigantic event. so in a simple symbol there can be too much info.

The three horizontal lines represent the three platforms that PureBasic supports, and the diagonal line that cuts across them denotes that PureBasic is cross-platform.
The correspondence to Fred's initials is just a pleasant coincidence. Perhaps.
All of it is just a coincidence. That icon was created years before PureBasic supported Linux or Mac.

In the case of PureBasic, think Occam's Razor; it's not a logo inasmuch as a signature:

That's what I always assumed it was, Fred's initials 'F' & 'L' , similar to the Van Halen 'VH' logo.

Hi netmaestro. Not years, but you're right; it's all pure conjecture
(no pun intended).
However, since Fred did say that he
"needed an icon for the Windows version of PB," which was released just five months before the first Linux version, it goes to reasonable logic that he was already developing PureBasic to be multi-platform, and would have wanted the symbol to reflect it.
Only thing is, at that time, the three horizontal lines would have represented the Windows, Linux, and Amiga versions.
Again, unless Fred confirms this, we're all simply guessing here.

Even there is not always a secret in an icon,
we read unconsciously something in it.
Unfortunately, the direction of the three parallels of the Z point to the bottom right,
a sign for going downhill,
it would be better upward to show success.

downhill or uphill ?? thats relative, and the symbol since it contains more than the alphabet it does not follow the rules.
in the original symbol the reversed F are looking uphill to the left , my opinion depends on the fact that here the reversed or rotated F means that he is going in opposite of the usual basic languages, so certainly he is looking upward and to a more development.
i don't think Fred will reveal the secret, because it is a secret.

Years ago, I hit 999 and then later, twice that. When Bericko and I decided as a joke to change my post count and status to "protozoa", he did it as a mod and now I have no idea what the true post count is.
Damn!

Your post count is currently accurate at 3161, according to 'Search for user's posts'. You still might want to change that 'protozoa' thing though.

Only a mod can change that. But it's okay, I feel at one with my fellow protozoas:):):)
