PURPOSE OF GOLD AND SILVER
Before Fiat (paper money and cheap metal coins) there was the use of
things like Gold and Silver to deal with the exchange of goods and
services. Before Gold and Silver, you had a barter system, which was
simply a deal on deal basis with what was on hand. Did you know that
19 states here in the USofA have passed bills allowing Gold to be used
in payment of things? They recognize that the dollar has lost an
incrdible amount of value, and is losing more every day. But there is
not enough gold to go around, and the price of gold is up so high that it
is overvalued for small purchases. Hence the return to the era of the
silver coin (90% silver before 1965, and still up to as much as 40% silver
until about 1972). Diamonds have an exageraged value, controlled by
a monopoly, but there are other commodities that have good value.
They just aren't common, so use in trades or buying is a lot less certain.

A CHICKEN IN HAND?
With paper currency out of the picture, how do you expect to pay for a
visit to the doctor? Or cover your taxes? Or provide for yourself and your
family year around? We are not living in the times where the nearest
neighbor lives three ridges over, or where we have a flock of geese or some
dogs to raise a ruckus if someone suddenly is on our property. We aren't all
armed to the teeth against intrusion, where we can lock ourselves in and
keep the world at bay, and where we can just do without water, sewage, and
electricity. How are you going to keep someone from raiding your garden or
doing worse? Like I said, its going to be rough times. We see the beginnings
of it already with a rise in carjackings, home invasions, driveby shootings,
and the loss of hope for jobs, meaning they have to find another way to get by.

YOU MAY THINK I AM BEING AN ALARMIST
but I was subject to a home invasion a few weeks back. I saw it as being only a
matter of time. I was here, but even if I had realized they were in the house
with me present in the back, I could not have stopped it. They got away, the
police came when I called, they did what they could, and they left. What's
to keep if from happening again? A neighbor, five houses over, had a break-in
just the week before. To me, as the dollar fades and becomes harder to get,
such events will only increase.

I watch THE BIG BANG THEORY show on TV some nights. I find it entertaining.
But I also note that the doors into those apartments have sheets of metal bolted
across the inside of the door. That's because they are reflecting life as it is in
some areas. I've even seen interior shots of places where they may have five
deadbolts and chainlocks on the inside of the door. It's not that bad here, at least
not yet. But it could be just a matter of time. We can't all live in gated communities.

Machinecode, I got some private email about you. One tired to
apologize for you as not being representative. Well, I know you are
not representative of many things, but on the other hand, you do
represent certain things worth mentioning. A sort of contest is
underway to see what terms might best relate to you. Some of the

After you withdrew your post and apologized, I decided to spare you the
facts. You don't speak for anybody but yourself. Now I am not denying that
others may agree with you, but they don't make an issue of the fact. You
seem determined to put yourself in the line of fire. People like you are
a mystery to me.

Off Topic clearly says that whatever is discussed here has absolutely nothing to do
with PureBasic. I've tried to fit in with other categories, but the forum monitor
has asked that I stick with Off Topic or General Diswcussion. I tried General
Discussion and that did not suit some people. Fine. I'm here on Off Topic now.
Be proud of yourself. Without doing one bit of good, you've had your way. Only
it wasn't you that put me here, it was me going along with the monitor.

your concern about the future of money is well founded, all you have to do is watch the news,
but in my opinion, gold or silver is not the answer, because I have a suspicion that when the monetary
system collapses, you will have martial law in effect, just look at the riots happening now, and I doubt that
gold or silver would do you much good, Danilo has the right idea, get some land, preferably in a mountainous
region, and try to become as self sufficient as possible.

THE ECONOMY IS THE WHOLE SHOOTING MATCH
That's the reason I mention it. If the economy goes bust , its the end of
what we know and how we get by. That makes it important. But will it
happen? Will it actually fail? Yes. When is the real question. I'm only
saying it as a warning, as something to prepare yourself against.

NOT JUST MY THOUGHTS ON THE MATTER
Igot my exposure to what is happening via several informed sources. That
was in 2011. It's not something you can get away from, once you under-
stand it. So yes, I want to make sure others have a chance to understand
as well.

It might be best if I just provide some links on the subject. Like the rest of
my postings here, you either do or don't, it's your call. There are riots in
places where people are going under because things have gotten that bad.
Riots don't fix the problems, they just make new problems. But what are
people suppose to do when the system begins to collapse?

How about the economic side of things? Well, how can you have an economy
without money? That's tricky. So of course they project what a collapsed currency
will do to the economy as well. But let's look for links about economic

If you get the picture, it's not a good one. The world is in financial trouble.
Global trade has made it so that if any member country is in trouble, it hits
the rest as well. The closer your ties are to the member country, then more
it effects you. And global trade has taken a setback, and does not seem to
be coming out of it. Meanwhile we have more people and more needs all
over the world, and little means to help them with.

Now if you don't like to read that, I understand. But then you didn't have to
read it, or follow any of the links, and in fact you did not have to visit this
thread at all. That's not going to change the state of the world, but it might
let you live your own dreams awhile longer. I just think it is better to know.

Is Fred paying to host this blog?
