Hey there. I have another question :
I wanna stay windows-free, so im gonna install the PB Linux version (and Windows version, just to compile the codes and send to my friends).
Well, i don't really believe in this multi-platform stuff.. so.. will i have any big problem ? I'll be doing 2D stuff only, like Guis programs, and small 2D games (working on a RPG right now). Will be using sound/musics a lot too.
The windows version uses DirectX for 2D stuff, and the Linux version uses Open-GL, right ?

Thanx again.
David.

Multiplateform works. All 3 Pauls games (Hostile sky, Pong, Lady's Garten) compiles without any change on Linux. About the graphical subsystem, it's SDL which is used for all multimedia stuffs.

Yeah but i think before a 3D-Game is running on multiple platforms a multiplatform millisecs()-function is needed, because many are prefering time-dependet coding in 3D-Games i think (frame-limited is good for 2D).

if not ttl > millisecs()
move somebullet,0,0,delta(500)
rotate somebullet,0,0,millisecs() mod 360
fi ; ehrm endif

The 3D engine manage automatically that has it has its own internal timer and modify the factor of the move etc... Anyway, I will add a MilliSec() like function, it's okay.

Well BlitzPlus seems to be the direct competitor of PureBasic.
The price of $60 would suggest that too.

BUT - and this is a big BUT - what is with the updates :)
With PureBasic all following updates are free - with Blitz an update is AFAIK not free (BTW: I never used Blitz)

BTW: Would be interesting to see the documentation of it.
I'm now surfing the internet with my Internet Appliance (Midori Linux on 16MB Flash) so no room for files download...

Have a nice day...

B2D to B+ is not free, but B+ lines is free till it's replaced again.

However it gave me a bad impression about Blitz, but I have to buy...

Excellent, the GUI sample are exactly like PureBasic code, making them very easy to understand :). Seems more and more like Purebasic...

Hi,

Maybe im old (30 yr) or i lived in mars, but i never heard before about Blitz just in this forums.

Today i went to the blitz site and download the demo of blitz plus... was a waste of time and disc space!

I think that the typical VB coder that comes to PureBasic wont be interested on Blitz at all, the GUI designer dont work at all in my PC.

Personally i dont like Blitz. Its my point of view.

Best Regards

Ricardo

I've been beta testing BlitzPlus for a while now and I must say it's *very* nice to work with. The new userlibs are a really nice touch, but it's nothing PB hasn't been able to do for ages. Both BlitzPlus and PureBasic have different stengths - BP is still geared more towards gaming afterall. I know Mark plans to add more to BlitzPlus over the coming months, and I'm sure the line between the two languages will become more blurred. At the end of the day though, there's room for two *excellent* basic languages in this market... I use both - They don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Incidentally, the new GUI syntax is very much like the old Amiga Blitz :)

Oh but in those months PB will be comparable to BlitzPlus + Blitz3D! And only then if you ignore PB-OS integration and inline assembly. I have DB (urgh), DBPro (urgh), BB3D (nice) and PB (best by far).

(Drat - I got suckered in!)
