I participated (because you won't stop nagging

(just kidding

)) and I'd like to see what other people voted for^^

Haha, I'm not gonna tell ya!
No seriously, I'm planning to release the results when the poll is closed (see first post) so that users who still want to vote are not influenced in some way, like: "Just 123 votes for ZYX? Well then I have to!"
Maybe there is even some excel expert who wants to help putting the result data in nice graphs etc. so I might share it (as CSV etc.) with those who are interested...

I see. Well you can't share the graphs in a CSV, so you'd actually need to share the XLS or PDF

But I think a website is better. You can use the Google Chart Api to create the graphs quite easily.

I've meant that I would like to share the raw input data so that nice graphics, charts graphs etc. can be created by others.

It isn't a massive feature request thingy anyway! It rather a mood-o-meter which simply shows them where to set priorities: If the poll clearly says that we want/need something of XYZ then implementing ABC can wait.
hmmm, maybe you are right, but I guess only time will tell

Although, lately I think the forum shows the mood of the people quite well (you don't need a poll for it anyway hehe). and the mood doesn't seem to be a good one. Lots of pointless arguing and throwing toys out of prams. It's a shame though to be fair, this used to be a real friendly place to hang out at. Kind of all gone to hell in a hand basket lately though. Ooops, I seem to have gone off at a tangent

.
The overall idea seems sound. As a yard stick, I guess it does give the PB dev's an idea of direction. So, OK, you won me over

Also - as I said before - I think it's good to see who the PureBasic developers are and what we do. I really have to admit that I never thought that so much of us are creating commercial applications (as the previous, smaller poll has shown). This kind of information is interesting and it gets even more interesting when we see what kind of application is actually developed...
That's a good enough answer for me. I suppose there is some interesting data to be gleaned from all of this. OK, count me in... I'll do your poll

Now 3 weeks have past and we have about 260 participants. There are a lot of insightful ideas and comments!
Please let me know if you're interested in compiling the poll data into some nice graphs, charts etc. - Help would be really appreciated...

Of course we'e interested!

Good work. Doesn't G-Docs automatically generate charts? At least I thought so.
Help would be really appreciated
How can I help you?

Thank you bembulak!
Google automatically creates charts and stuff but unfortunately with some flaws: The "Software Type" section doesn't get a graphic, the answers for "Other" (at "What should the team focus on") aren't displayed and the final comments could be somehow analysed by merging similar ideas.
Especially displaying the "Software Type" section can be improved:
- Show how each main topic performs against the others: X% make Games and Y% Office apps
- Then for the topic itself: X% worked with XML, Y% with databases etc.
- And then all items compared: X% made Action Games, Y% encryption tools ... (this is done automatically but without a chart)
I think I'll wait another week and then officially close the poll (maybe we can get another 20-40 participants in this time

). Then we can work with the poll data.
Let me know if you have any other ideas or suggestions.

Oki, no problem.
Just drop me a note with things you need to be done! (gather data, make charts or whatever).
//edit: I just read the bullshit I've written. Sorry for that. Seems like I really have to look more careful on the things I write, especially when I'm using my tablet...

OK, I closed the poll... 293 participated, great!
Now it's time to analyze and visualize the results. As I said before especially the comments (there are a lot!) and the software type section needs some work.
Help is appreciated as I don't really know how this Excel stuff works. If you're interested in helping out, I could invite you to the Google Docs (account is needed).

Here's an idea, I don't know if you considered.
If you can export the survey results to CVS, you could write a PB app to import the results, and then use that PDF library (I forget whose it is or what its called) to export to a pretty PDF report.

@Zach
Of course, there are tons of things I could do... If I only had the time for it.
I think the best way would be to create some graphs using Google Docs and then make it public. This way everyone can easily view it!

Little update: Time flies so I decided to release provisional results: Click here!
Background: Originally, as you might already have read in this thread, I had a much more detailed summary in mind. Unfortunately working with the data and analyzing it is incredibly time consuming. Without the great help of bembulak it wouldn't even look as it does now.
What is needed to make it look better & show more details of the answers?
I've planned to create a website with all different kind of graphics, world map etc. The skeleton for this is already created. To successfully embed the results, they must be formated a little differently. Instead of this (as it is now, see download below) :
How old are you?
25-35
45-55
45-55
35-45
45-55
...it should look like:
How old are you?
15-25: 0
25-35: 1
35-45: 1
45-55: 3
I hope you understand what I mean. All answers must be transformed into some kind of a sub-tables where the results are reduced and all occurrences counted.
Feel free to download the raw result data in CSV format here:
Download (175 KB)
It would be great if some of you come up with better graphs, diagrams, tables etc. as Google's automatically generated one. Please send me your results as I would love to put them all together in an
official "PureBasic Poll 2012 Results" page as I've stated above.
Let me know your ideas and suggestions...

Works fine here using Firefox 11.0
