Actually it doesn't make sense, manufacturing the hardware is bloody hard work and for most manufacturers the margins are razor thin too. Did you see HP's recent announcement? Also consider the key performers in the Android league are Samsung and HTC, Moto is a long way off the pace:

(look at the NOKIA line on this chart and see if you can guess the point at which Elop announced he was killing Symbian. Imo the resulting loss of support from carriers and large retailers was entirely predictable)
What if Samsung and HTC felt Google were sidelining them and decided to change OS? It has already been shown Android apps run seamlessly with Alien Dalvik on MeeGo, HP are now looking for licensees for webOS or they might even do the unthinkable and put more focus on WP7. How long will Android stay relevant then?
This blog was written by David Drummond (Google's Chief Legal Officer) before the deal with Moto was announced:

An interesting development, Samsung are rumoured to be interested in purchasing webOS:

One can only hope that Google plays it smart by continuing to push Android and that all they are doing by buying Motorolla is that they will be adding their own hardware offering to the mix.
Only time will tell...

Ok, I found my next phone, the Motorola Atrix. It will be available here in mid October.
I will also buy the laptop dock, and the multimedia dock for it. Nokia and Aple can sell their
phones to somebody else..

The jury's still out for me on what my next phone will be and if/when I get it. I'm not eligible for an upgrade until May 2012 and I'm still very happy with my current phone so even when I can upgrade, I may choose not to.

Samsung Galaxy Note - I barely make any calls with mine, it's more of an internet browsing device, so I've been wanting a tablet that's as convenient as a phone.
The 7" tablets are a touch on the "too big" size for me, otherwise I would have a Galaxy Tab by now...

I seem to remember you were rather enthusiastic about NOKIA/WP7:

Had a change of heart?

I've heard Android on low spec hardware is a horrible experience so you're probably right to avoid the low end models. iPhones are slightly more interesting these days because they have good HTML5 support, you can create a manifest to cache your HTML5 app locally, you can hide all the browser chrome and you can even create an icon in your app list for it. It's still not as good as having SL4A though.
M$ have come up with a very clever way of scripting for WP7 using a WP7 device:

I read yesterday Samsung are going to take the lead role in the future development of MeeGo, so Google's purchase of Moto may yet backfire on them.
