ok, I found the preferences and killed them. It is still doing it (No change). Very frustrating.

How about adding the help manual as a tool? (Tools > Configure Tools... > New)

My guess is that some 3rd party application is trying to be helpful and messes up the window close events. There is absolutely no connection between opening the help and quiting in the IDE itself.

Try it with your Anti-Virus/Anti Spyware programs disabled.

I chased down the pref files and killed them. Still no change. I took a hard drive "cleaning" program that wipes temp files and cookies and such and cleaned the hard drive. Still no change. I can't believe I am the only one seeing this as it is on all my windows xp systems.

Read the post from freak. I have some problems with DisplayFusion and UltraMon, closes the IDE if
i minimize the IDE.

My first thought was that you had some third party program interferring, but I didn't want to mention the obvious.

It is getting weirder. I downloaded the jaPBE. It seemed to work ok yesterday (only used it about 10 minutes though). This morning it is exhibiting the same behavior with the help file that PBE is. Everything closes when I open the help. If I didn't need so much help, this wouldn't be such a problem.

this is exactly a prove that some third party app tries to be helpful.
it does the same with jaPBe like with the IDE.
deactivate this "service" and you'll should be fine.

Did you try it with your Anti-Virus/Anti Spyware programs disabled? Do you have a 3rd party app on your system for reading .chm files?

Hello John,

I remembered having a tool to track specified processes but couldn't find it jet.
Still there's another small portable tool to track the files & folders that will be accessed and to me it shows several win-files that are used when calling the help from the IDE: ProcessActivityView
It's just a small trial, but maybe it already hints you to that 'helpfull app' (in case it's there).
