Well it is slowly dying. It will take some time but it will vanish. PNG + MNG is superior and will replace it. MNG is not much accepted yet, but this will change.

Decoding GIF is still usefull, but for how long?

Let us suppose that that is right:
Then UseGIFImageDecoder() should be added for compatibility and for historical reasons.
And by the way, does PNG or MNG allow image sequences?

What so you mean by image sequences? Animations? Multible images?
MNG is PNG just with support for multible images. For example for animations. It suppots all that GIF is supporting plus many many more like alpha channel, gamma information, ICC profiles, and of course 8bit per channel, it even supports 16bit per channel. GIF only supported indexed colors.

I think a "POWER" lng must has support an animate pic at least . gif is very funny , simple to creation, ....
if maybe freak have a surprise for all user!

In this time, KCC is too nervous, and too sad.

Too much personals problems
Health problems, problems of job, materials problems, wife problems (yes they are always problems with wife, but again more that usually )

Furthermore, he fight against a code for passing array since one month, and he is tired.

And KCC see, that it's possible to put it, in copy/paste action

And it's good, to change the idea of KCC, for make a break with this bad Array of string of hell

Immediately KCC begin is code...and what it's passed......KCC found alone this great code

KCC is tired.....even when he want do a simple code...he can't

Well, KCC take the rest of his bravery and search, search, search, found, found, found, several codes of three of his heroes : the three MASTERS : SPARKIE, NETMAESTRO and SROD
NETMAESTRO = passing image between program
SPARKIE and SROD = Copy image to clipboard

But all this jewel, don't want to pass animated GIF

So, i ask the question in french forum, because KCC ask too much questions in the US forum
And he feel, he unnerve, all the members with is numerous stupids questions and his idea of mule always impossible to make

And in the french forum, my friend say to me.....it's impossible...because it's GIF...but ask to FRED because now the GIF is FREE

In fact, it's a joke against KCC, because the member know the answer of the team
And sure, KCC is again more IDIOT after asking that
And when KCC return in french forum, with the answer of the TEAM....the member laugh of KCC

But, IDIOT or not.....KCC is sure he have right.
GIF is everywhere...and it's not possible that a so big language can't manage it

This is all the history of the poor KCC, so tired to be in the world of programming, working so hard all the day, several nights...and be again more IDIOT, NULL in programming day by day............

WTF? Why? This is still a serious feature request. I honestly can't fathom why the team is so anti-GIF.

/me agrees with PB, this *IS* a serious request, even if KCC has gone slightly mad in his own thread lol.

I vote for this thread to be moved back to the feature request forum for serious consideration by the PB team.

Why do you think that? I hope you're right, but given that MNG has been around 5+ years and hasn't taken off, I'm not optimistic about its survival. The MNG homepage doesn't have any news since 2006! And considering Flash and SVG I can't see MNG having much of a chance.

Unless IE and Windows Picture Viewer support it, and common movie editing programs (eg. Adobe Premiere, After Effects) begin rendering to it, I think MNG is doomed.

Please tell me I'm wrong, as I'd love a high-quality webpage movie format as simple to use as animated gif. If all you want to do is render a little video to a file then display it on a webpage, anigif is the quickest, simplest way to do it. In comparison, Flash SWF is more than is needed, SVG won't show on IE browsers, Flash FLV takes a lot of implementing, and MPEG is too big.

Regarding PureBasic, I personally think Fred & Freak were right to concentrate on PNG/alpha/32-bit capabilities. They will be useful for decades, unlike GIF. However, the ability to save an image sequence to an animated gif would nevertheless be welcomed.

I simply don't think GIF can be described as "dead". Sure it's outdated and obsolete, but everyone uses it everywhere. Maybe it's a zombie format, but it's not a dead format.

Apparently everybody know.....exept KCC

I vote for GIF inclusion into PureBasic as well. This is currently a wide used standard format - no matter if it's old, outdated or if there are better alternatives available.
