Machinae Supremacy uses mostly C64 & AY-3-8910 like synthesis, merged with vocals and electric guitar sounds.
Btw, depending on what i am programming or writing i also listen the best authentic rap i have known ever, his name is PoRtA and i have contacted with him, he is now 19 years old and apart of a great artist and poet, he is one of the few ones who is really consciously 'awake' nowadays:
Falsa esperanza
erase una vez
el 90 por ciento de mi eres tu
Harto y Cansado
Una sociedad un tanto rara
Estados
Un sueño
El final del mundo
APRECIA LO QUE TIENES
Hay siempre un sentimiento muerto en un corazon roto
Rap is the music where the spoken language is done with more messages per time unit, no doubt. But today rap is corrupted, yes, by money, as always.
Sorry, the links above are spanish lyrics, there is a pity you don't understand it, but you can ear how many info per second is released.

Myself about 80% of the time silence is golden, but when I do listen to a bit of music while coding it will be more than likely something along the lines of:

Coding needs FITTING AND APPROPRIATE music.
How about... ACDC with "Highway to Hell" ?

In my definition of art, art is ORDER AND/OR FEELING, i.e. If my brain is not able to find ORDER OR i don't FEEL any feeling in any art, then the art is not art to my brain.
Looks like a work composed by a computer, not like too much, i found it not enough coherent, to say the truth i prefer my 2 preferred ones all over time: Beethoven and Schubert, even they didn't use synth sounds (pity) they had the hability to create a very elaborated works.

Hans Zimmer? never heard of him before, but I like it. As 'phanta says may be a copy of Vangelis,
but never mind. Vangelis reminds me of Bladerunner, which is good.
In the mean time, listen to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIVkBT8lVqI
Zehr gut koding muzik aus (von?) Norwegen

For my own, at this time I'm listening especially real and pure trad music, but I can't when coding, as it's too emotional (really good music!). To code I prefer my old modules (gives me energy!), good rock, synthetic, classical music, or pure teenager time shitty pop music. That's a bit of everything, in fact!
