Exactly what 'Resources' does the compiler look for?
I've removed and reinstalled completely, still the same. But I installed it on a different machine and it works fine.
Some other observations....
If I disable 'XP skin support thing', and then try to compile, it gives a linker error. If I put it back to original, same resource error as before.
A little more definitive error message would help... resource error to me means something is missing, but exactly what is missing would be necessary to fix this problem.
Thanks.
PS: My compiler directory looks the same as yours, but without the first text file in your listing.

I would assume it's looking for an XP manifest
I really hope you'll stick this out, PB should be fine on 2000 though perhaps there's an issue with the demo installation.
There must be a number of users running a 2000 system so maybe one of them can offer some useful help.

Well, as a programmer, using a program to program with, the lack of detail in an error message is quite puzzling.

It may have been over looked.
If it's not a version issue with dependencies, then maybe there's just a bug in the demo build.
The fact that you got it working on one machine and not another suggests that there's a dll version issue.
So maybe have a look at the versions between the systems for
ADVAPI32.DLL
CRTDLL.DLL
MSVCRT.DLL
OLE32.DLL
OLEAUT32.DLL

even stranger.
I copied the complete purebasic directory on my xp system to my 2000 system on drive I.
Copied that to my program files-> purebasic directory on drive c.
No change.
But, I executed purebasic from drive I.
It works from drive I, but not from drive C.

This time I uninstalled pb, then installed on drive d instead of program files-> pb.
Works fine on drive d. I have no idea why it would work everywhere but on drive c.

Well I guess we can close this thread. I decided to do some disk cleanup and even found some nasty dll's floating around in system32 - (trojans), had to boot to linux on cd to get rid of them.
Removed and reinstalled purebasic in the normal directory and everything seems to be working fine now.
Thanks for all the help and sorry for driving you guys nutz over a stupid computer issue that was my own.

You can always count on most of us for friendly support... providiong you aren't attempting to do something immature, silly and script kiddy-ish!
Allthough there are those here who would help with that as well!
