No you're not, just different - which is not meant to be a valuation of any sort.
Given a society without a somewhat descent minimal social security & health care system; add to this funny liability laws and how these are interpreted by the judicial system during those outrageous liability claim cases, and you are sure to raise an eyebrow or two in other parts of the world, especially so in Europe.
I personally know people that have stopped marketing stuff into the USA because of those liability issues.
