Fluid, FWIW, I don't see why your post gave such offense. I assume it was the only one (none deleted) and was not edited.
However go through these forums, mate, and see the crap that some dish out (and you are no innocent there).
And as you go through these forums you will also see how many people wipe their posts or modify them after the event and to improve their own position.
It sucks.

Looking at the description as it was... I am assuming our good Dr. is in High School (perhaps 15 years old.) About the age of the students I used to teach.
I had not wish to flame him either, but deleting all your posts on a forum is rather childish.
At least he made the effort NOT to write in 733t or THUMtext!

I think he was older than that, Some of the stuff he posted was interesting, it just sounds like he had a need for people to prop up his self respect.
Even adults can have maturity issues, it usually causes anger and frustration issues too.
I would suspect this happens to him a lot on internet forums

Rather than disable it completely, if phpBB has this feature, do what I do on the Silicon Realms forums.Dare wrote:Admin, can the self-editing of posts be disabled?
It is abused more often than it is correctly used these days.
You can edit your posts, but only within 5 minutes of posting it.
This allows for minor corrections to be made to the posts, but prevents abuses like this and the other recent thread that saw one member remove all his posts and the topic title.
I'm sure if Fred & co feels they are important enough to warrent the effort (or make a point) they can restore them in a locked state from a previous version from some time in the recent past.
But I agree, having a timeout on the edit period might be a good idea. Perhaps they will think about that after the doctor's little hissy fit.
Still, I was half expecting another "Goodbye cruel world" post here
but I guess the message
and taking his knowledge and going home was pretty close

You are correct, you dont need my knowledge or code.

Neither do I.Dare wrote:Fluid, FWIW, I don't see why your post gave such offense.
Why is it nowadays "crap" to format a fucking text? Is it crap to ask for a point or comma? Is it crap to check for typos? Is it crap to insert a fucking blank line here and there so the reader doesn't die of eyecancer? Is that really all crap?Dare wrote:However go through these forums, mate, and see the crap that some dish out (and you are no innocent there).
There is not a single argument against my request of text formating. None. Why the heck you even try to discuss this?
So? If you write something than back it up! If you write something great, be proud! If written bullshit or posted false information admit it and move on.Dare wrote:And as you go through these forums you will also see how many people wipe their posts or modify them after the event and to improve their own position.
If you are that weak that you can't take a ridiculous comment regarding text formation you don't belong in a forum anyway but should seek mental help.
Really depends on the persons involved.Dare wrote:It sucks.

Whatever.....
Here - just for you because I have noting better to do with my time than explain 12 lines of code to someone who is not paying me.
It's sad that the good doctor had to spend more of his precious time removing his posts than he did formatting them.Dr_Wildrick wrote:Took more time to format it than it took me to write it.
I wonder how many languages he learned without making any mistakes? I guess that was before he became perfect. I hope he sees more clearly in the future.Dr_Wildrick wrote:What you don't understand is that English is not my first language, it is not even my third language. So if you don't like what I write - don't read my posts. A simple solution.
Enough of the past. Commenting on the Editing of a post, I don't think there should be a limitation on this. It is used wisely by many people to keep an updated post, correct mistakes, and is generally useful. In the case of people who want to shred their past why would you want to prevent them from making a new start or ending a new beginning? People who contribute to the forum are often quoted, have their code copied and duplicated, or make an impression in other ways. If they haven't then what was seriously lost if they have a tantrum and delete their posts?
