I'm not interested in game programming but am interested in 3D modeling and manipulation of printed circuit board assemblies. Is this a practical application? If so, at what cost?

A side note, Visual Studio Express can be used to produce commercial application while DarkGDK can't . The limit of Express Edition is less tools and no MFC/ATL, but still able to link CRT statically and have good optimization.
I just can't have intention to learn C++...
I don't have a quote for you. But rest assured that it won't be any more expensive than a DarkBasic Professional or a PureBasic license. So whatever it is it will be very affordable.Seymour Clufley wrote:The website says that the beta is free (if registered).
Have you any idea how much the released version wil be?
This problem is most likely due to DarkBasic Professional not being installed or from the DBP directory being moved. The installer finds this directory from the "Software\Dark Basic\Dark Basic Pro\INSTALL-PATH" key in the registry.milan1612 wrote:I get thiswhile installing---------------------------

An error has occurred while writing to the DarkBasic plugins folder.

I've tried many times to write applications using DarkBasic Professional and frankly it's just not feasible. But with PureGDK everything changes.dhouston wrote:I'm not interested in game programming but am interested in 3D modeling and manipulation of printed circuit board assemblies. I stand corrected. I've also confirmed this from Microsoft's website.yoxola wrote:Sounds good as I have DBPro.

Perhaps you should rush out and try the free version first. You might be disappointed.Dare wrote:Well, although I am not into DBpro and etc, I have to say this is one of the most comprehensive and impressive announcements I have seen. (The actual announcement).
Almost makes me want to rush out and get the DB GDK thing!
No but testers will receive a discount.SFSxOI wrote:Sounds nice, thank you.
Just wondering tho...do beta testers get a free copy when the beta is finished?
Most of the reviews on this site are old. DarkBasic Professional has made massive improvements since it was first reviewed there. Since the U6 update there are very few outstanding bugs, most of which are problems with the language itself and not the engine.sampb wrote:From the history of darkbasic pro, it is famous for its marketing technique, unsolved bugs and concentrate on showing beautiful effects (even with bugs).
Can you really speak for everyone? If you read the newsletter you would know that it's not uncommon to see a an announcement for a commercial game.sampb wrote:No one likes to use it for serious game development. It supports windows only.
That is why I was hoping this was a wrapper for the GDK. The GDK is updated more often and is a lot more stable than DBPro.Although this is a great addition to PB, DBPro is riddled with bugs that never get fixed:
Thats a shame, it would have made a nice ice scraper for the windshield of your carI burned my DBPro CD years ago because nothing is ever fixed.
Filter by confirmed (at the top) and you'll see that there are only 123 bugs listed there. If you read through them you'll notice that these bugs include more than just DarkBasic Professional and the ones that do pertain to DBP most of them are related to bugs in the language and not the engine, as I said before.Kale wrote:Although this is a great addition to PB, DBPro is riddled with bugs that never get fixed:

Just scroll through a few pages and see. Its been like that for years.

DarkGDK is not any more stable than DarkBasic Professional other than the fact that it does not suffer from the language bugs, like PureGDK . It uses the same engine and is neither better or worse. DarkGDK is not updated more than DarkBasic Professional. If so many of you pride DarkGDK then why not PureGDK? It works with PureBasic! That is why I was hoping this was a wrapper for the GDK.
