Consider this:
What we think about using bad language is not the point. Courtesy to others
is the point. Courtesy includes not using words and phrases that others find offensive. Giving offence includes "hate" and flame type posts and it also includes the use of swear words.
To continue to use foul language shows a lack of courtesy and sensitivity, don't you think? To deliberately do so after someone has expressed discomfort with it can show malice, not so? It certainly indicates a self-centered personality.
It is also possibly a minor sabotage of PureBasic. A significant minority of people dislike the use of curse words and a percentage of them may not get involved with PureBasic if during their assessment period they encounter what they consider to be vile language on these boards. They may not want to be associated with a community that talks that way - or with an organisation that allows that to be done.
OTOH a forum free of that sort of language is not going to cost a sale.
Perhaps we should ask ourselves how many Euro's our curse word has cost Fred. And Fred should ask himself the same thing and perhaps rethink allowing this on the forums.
IMO we can have conversations without swearing and this will not detract from the meaning of the conversation nor will it limit our ability to add emphasis.
Just some thoughts.

You also want to leave all the fun and ironic stuff out, too? The majority of problems here is due to people not understanding each other. Or even outsiders not getting internal stuff!

There is a difference, as you know.

Upgraded to 1200 with Blizzard 060 CPU Card and 16 MB Fast (WOW!)
You may seek for releases on Mekka/Symposion arround 199X where we made the first place on 32k Game Compo, Music Compo and so on...
So I'm even quite old enough to know amiga times.

Cool! Thought perhaps that you had bypassed that whole era and went directly to the PC
I started with asm on a Vic-20 in the early 80's. Went on to Basic on the Sinclair QL (seemed like a good idea back then

), a really nice Basic actually! After that straight to the Amiga 500 in 86, and released my first demo a year later.. No directly famous groups though.. Software Of Sweden and later on Empire.. My most treasured code was a trackloader that used the blitter to decode the floppy track data and took only 30 rasterlines on a A500 and didn't use a single call to the system, all hardware access

Still really proud of that one, or can you tell?

And Brice Manuel, you haven't allways been such an "angel" yourself.
I was banned for a week for calling somebody a "retard". Had I know you could use "the f word" and other curse words and not get banned, I would have used those instead
I'm no angel, but I don't use such profanity on the forums. I just don't take crap from troublemakers and that tends to anger some folks.

I also think that language differencies is a big problem. Some words, of course english, can be contain a little bit different meaning in an emotional way in other countries. Sometimes I also need a translation tool to understand the meaning of some posts as my english is really not so good as these by other users here. I think we have to live with this.
basicly I dont think that a phrase like "they are doing a XXXX-great job!" is condideres as flaming or beeing violent against others... but this may be change in someone else point of view.

DARE
If we say people who swear can't be here, i vote that people believing in any sort of religion should be cut out as well. Why? because they are stupid in general. Thats why.
oh wait, can i say that? YES I CAN. you just said people who swears has a lack of courtesy. So do i think about people who believe in god. How come? They tend to believe they have a more meaningfull life. Thats just crap! . And don't get me started in this one...
no offence to people believing in god. I am allways interested in a discussion about this, if you DARE.

@ thefool
You can post whatever you like. The forums allow this.
I am suggesting that considerate people will show consideration and that those who wish PureBasic well will refrain from using terms that may drive potential customers away.
You have a PM.
It is sent in jest, btw. Just in case you can't tell the difference.

My six-year old is often sitting on my lap when I read the forums. I have a hard enough time trying to explain all the pictures of David Hasslehoff to her.

Yes. Well, i don't find this forum a bad place with things like this. Of course it should be allowed to call someone a jerk when he mix stuff up! I mean. What s the point of having things like religion discussions in the forum when you can't draw emotions in it? the forum would become BORING if no one had the right to become upset from time to time.
