Perhaps we should all prepare our applications stating our cases as to why we consider we would be valuable to the team as Alpha or early Beta testers?

Bare in mind that we need to have compelling reasons (skill-depth or specialist abilities) to play any sort of useful role in the early stages.

Here is mine:

Please consider me for a role as an Alpha or early-Beta tester of your product.

I would be an invaluable addition as the Lowest Common Denominator.

I perceive my role to be not so much exposing bugs and inconsistencies, but as exposing you to the sort of really stupid questions you will be getting when you make your general release. This would inspire you to idiot-proof your product and would also provide useful combat experience and battle-hardening for the team on "B-Day".

You really do need someone who can't tell his Asm from his EntityX or his Alpha from his Beta.

(BTW what is an Alpha - is it short for AlphaSnd?)

Yours in anticipation,

Dare

PS: I already know what a Beta is. We have one in our kitchen and use it to make fruitjuice and eggnog

man, this thread makes me puke. :D

@IceSoft
whats the point in this? after freak gave an official statement, you asked again 2 days later, when the beta will be out and now not even a week has passed and you start such a thread. furthermore you sent me a pm and probably to other alpha members, begging to give you informations about the new stuff implemented in PB 4.10. you are acting like a child. you just want to play with the new stuff, no matter how buggy the overall product is. this is so selfish and silly, that it makes me laugh.

here, i will quote myself again:
as a sidenote i just want to say, that many people simply expect too much of a new release. the switch fom pb 3.94 to 4.00 was a very huge step, but dont expect the same amount of changes/features in 4.10. the most important thing now is, to have a stable and (as good as possible) bugfree purebasic, since there are still many unfixed 4.0X bugs left.
if you dont understand that, you will be probably very disappointed with the beta.

just my 2 cents.

c ya,

Hope I can give you much more funny moments ;-)

About the PB4.10:
Mmmhhh... it should be a very stable version?
Fine....that's only one more reason to go to the beta phase.

Thats my 2 cents.

that's exactely what i think. i prefer to have a purebasic version as stable as a rock.
a growing command set is of course interessant but the purebasic's 1rst goal should always be stability. at the moment pb 4.02 is enough stable for my (professionnal) use so it's ok. i trust pb team, and it's done when it's done, not before.

but i think it's normal that people are wondering about the very soon future of purebasic. we are all here very interested about the news.
it's the proof that purebasic is in a good period, good health, alive and growing.

long life to purebasic.

Good idea, here is mine:
Dear PureBasic Development Team

Please consider me for a role as an alpha tester of your product.

I am a retard and will cry all night if you don't give me access.

Dear @Alpha-Tester....

Please don't forget to test also the not so often used PB libraries:

e.g:
All Ogre stuffs (Engine3D, ...)
Sprite3D
SoundPlugin
Sound
...

testing an alpha means testing the changes + new features and giving suggestions to the team while still work-in-progress. there is no point in testing the whole commandset over and over again. feel free to do so, in beta phase.

the pb team will know best, when the time has come to move from alpha to beta phase. dont bump, it wont change anything.

Yes thats right...but so we need a longer beta phase.

BTW: Most PB developer doesn't works with a beta.
So my 2cent:
All PB user should test there source together with the PB beta (always the latest)

If not...so there can be a BUG on a very seldom used place on PB .

All PB user,
Of course it is your decission to hunt BUGs.
But if you not hunt it...so some BUGs will be on PB after release
