No, no - I love the Norwegian people. All are very kind and loving! Almost too kind... Hmmmm...

An ulterior motive?

Update!
The Hotel wasn't €170 / night, when I checked out it was €220 / night. They called my little room with a window you couldn't open (Vista?) a "suite" and raised it €50 / night.
but a question to Trond... You have all those billions of oil money - why can't you (your Goverment / Municipality) fix the streets and pavements / sidewalks in Oslo? I was chocked! The sidewalks in Oslo has big holes everywhere and the streets looks like a NASA training landscape.

I remember trying to explain the prices in norway a long time ago techjunkie.
Now you have first hand experience of it

And yes, the salaries are pretty high here compared to other countries.
I was offered a job in Great Britain last year doing some programming and consulting work, I turned it down flat, because I make almost twice what they offered my as a starting salary per year driving a taxi here in Norway
2006 I had a income of 338.000,- NOK just by driving a taxi. That is US $55.895 or Britis £ 28.232 per years. But then again, I payed 122.000NOK in income taxe, or $ 10.190.

Thats less than danish taxi drivers earn

Depends on how long you drive of course.
And: ONLY 122 in income tax???
thats 36% ???
we pay 60% (at top-level. but most pay toplevel, as the limit is low) of income tax in denmark.
I find danish taxes way too high. Its actually on the edge of insanity! But oh well, we do have it good

ONLY 122000? Are you nuts? hehehe isn't that enough? Yeah that is 36%.
Here in Norway, if you neglect to deliver your tax returns, they automatically takes 50% of your salary hehehe.
A friend of mine made 450.000,- last year, but he practically lives in his cab. Doesn't have a life at all, I have two kids and lots of family that I enjoy spending time with. Problem is, every time my smallest one, 1 year old girl, when she sees me, all she does is say Pappa and she waves at me, because that's what she has gotten used to doing when she sees me. Kinda sad really

I guess our price-level and taxes makes norway above us in average income/spending power hehe.
But then again, i don't know many at the average income level. no idea where they get that amount from

sad with your daughter. Well. Play some games with her

450 000 for cab driving is cool

(450 nok right? approx 400 dkk?)
yes ONLY. 36% is nothing compared to 60% hehe
And on top of that you have cars at 1/3rd of our price, too!
Geotrail, let's move to spain

If you take into consideration of the total cost of buying a new car, taxes, environmental taxes, new car registration etc, I still think it's more expensive here. Wish we had the prices they have in England. They are practically giving away cars there

I'll second that! I pay about €50000 - €55000 in danish tax every year, but I'll guess I will get some back this year. We have just bought our apartment.
