Well, nothing is perfect.
I have experienced several times that the registration for the programs doesn't work properly or at all. And you have to install the program within a certain timeframe.

I think it is a very smart way to advertise / spread your application. If people like it, they maybe will buy the next version?!?

Very simple to bypass the registration system... LOL
Just run the Activate.exe before you install, then sniff the registry for the key of the software you downloaded...

Run Regedit and save a copy of that key...

This way you can always register your copy

OT on this, a bit, but ...

I have 2 XP os-es (dualboot) on the same box (One kept up to date with auto updates and another with auto-updates disallowed as one of the updates wrecked my IIS scripting. So I keep the 2nd at a usable point to maintain traditional asp sites).

Can I extract registry keys on the one OS for software installed there and then update the registry on the other?

So I don't have to keep rebooting to use apps installed on the 1st (or trying to install them on the 2nd which worries me as they would share the same folder in "program files")

If so, I will have to learn how to do this sniffing, extracting and etc.

You can also do a simple simple reinstall again.

in the day you download the software you can sniffer the activation in that day that connects giveawayoftheday.com

and see the server response.

save it in a file.

then in the day you want to reinstall or install at all

you just edit your hosts file in your windows machine.
change the giveawayoftheday.com to your machine ip
load a small webserver or a PB program you can do in seconds.
then send the sniffed code so the install program validates it.

thats the most easy way i can think of.

It took 2 minutes to do a new installation package with both activation and setup. Only 5 registry keys needed to be saved. My package also became 200k smaller than the original one.

but I don't like "the todays" app, so it will go into the trash - I like Elcomsoft ADC better.

That all sounds so messy...

I'd just use Total Uninstall to capture the registry and file system changes, edit it down to just what is needed for the app, then bundle it all up in a zip file that can be unzipped to reinstall the app if needed.

But then again, if I really like the app, I'd just buy it and avoid all that.

I really hate Citrix. I hate MS Great Plains too... I hate that I have to use them and Nexterna Clearview to do my job. I have no freedom. Not even software...
