For everything that's not in any way related to PureBasic. General chat etc...

Should I drop Messenger forever and use Google Talk?

AFAIK the plugin is delivered with the commercial version and doesn't work with the free one.

hehe, that's why i voted NO !

When i knew internet i knew ICQ, and i missed it when fashion went from ICQ to MSN messenger. So i don't want to cry again, i am in use with msn Messenger and i don't want to miss it. :)

You can always use a multi-protocol Instant Messenger like GAIM to use ICQ and MSN, but I don't think that your friends use ICQ anymore :(

I came from IRC and I remember those good old days when I and my friends exchanged data and chatted together in our private server, that was very cool :)

But unfortunately all my friends use MSN Messenger right now, it's just good that I have Kopete, so I can still talk to them

The downloadable plugin always worked here for the free version I used initially and I remember a jabber admin originally complaining to me that trillian's implementation left a lot to be desired. When I unpacked my commercial version, there was no jabber plugin so I downloaded it and it had been upgraded so I never tried the free version again.

I might be wrong but I seem to have seen a gtalk plugin (that's jabber protocol isn't it?) somewhere that might work.

Check out PalTalk if you have not. It has some great video if you pay for their top of the line version.

You can connect with several of the different, major chat programs out ther too.

Well as I'm now on Mac OS X most of the time I use Adium X as most of my friends use ICQ, when using my Linux Laptop I use GAIM, and in the unlikely case I have to use Windows I stick with the original Clients but running both ICQ and MSN at the same time.
(Hate to use my Windows Box but I sometimes still need to boot it for example when using software I need for school)
