Good free font for coding?

Everything else that doesn't fall into one of the other PB categories.

If you're having trouble with ClearType, it might be because of the note above (i.e. "monitor must be running at its native resolution").

I've just noticed that Dina, Verdana & MS San Serif are very similar.

Verdana would be a beautiful font for coding except for the fact that it isn't monospaced, which to me is a necessity for programming.

Good call. I use clear type all the time and it makes the font much easier to read.

Yeah, I moved into the Bitstream Vera now. Using it for Outlook too.

Pretty nice.

I think Bitstream Vera * looks plain ugly. In addition the mono version is unusable for coding because it's got no serifs.

I don't want to bitmap fonts since they can't be used with ClearType.

Since I want a modern style, serifs, monospacing, and ClearType most fonts are ruled out and I'm left with Courier New.

@Trond, try Dina - though it's a bitmap font, it has a very 'clean' design and shape. Though I don't use ClearType, I just switched over to it temporarily to see if there was any noticeable difference or improvement using it with Dina, and I couldn't notice any difference. See how you go.

I went with the www.dafont.com offering and adjusted my LCD with the ClearType Tuner.

Thanks guys.

I tried a lot of monospaced fonts.

And the one I like the most is ... "Courier New"

Exactly, because Dina is a bitmap font. I want ClearType and no jagged edges so I don't want to use Dina.

I never said 'don't use ClearType', just saying I think dina looks fine as-is due to it's clean design. However fonts, like the use of any embellishments like cleartype, are subjective.

I've never seen anything like that, so if you're late to the party then so am I... seems odd though.
