Aussie Aussie Aussie!
Despite some heart-stopping stuff, we managed to hold Netherlands 1:1 in a friendly.
In an earlier friendly we beat Greece (ranked around 20 in Fifa/CocaCola table)
So against Croatia and Japan (around the same levels as Greece) we are in with a chance. And we can hold Brazil (mind power, mind power, bring on the psi-wheel

).
We have also held Uruquay (1-0,0-1) who are also in the 20s.
So we are not mixing it too far out of our weight range, despite the fact Australia is ranked in the 40s.
BTW, do the Fifa/CocaCola rankings seem pretty strange to you?. There seem to be some unusual teams ranking up there.
Perhaps it is too sluggish because it carries too much past history?
And perhaps the weighting needs adjusting, esp the relative strengths of two teams? For eg, Brazil beating Botswana will not carry as much weight as Botswana beating Brazil. Maybe these should be ramped a little.

I think that in any case we (Croatians) will win. After all, half of the Australian team is of Croatian origin
Hmm.. we also have one Aussie (Didulica) actually playing for us! God.. it will be difficult to follow that game

True.

But they're not going to throw the match.

By the numbers, Croatia should finish 2nd. Brazil 1st. Japan 3rd. But we're a wild card. Playing better than we are ranked. Also, the coach (Dutch) is pretty darn darn good and has made a huge difference. So I reckon we'll get through.
For Croatia to get through it will have to beat Brazil.
Lol:
1: Australia
2: Croatia
3: Japan
4: Brazil
What an upset.

I think ... Japan wins to Australia.
Air did not enter the bowl of the Malta war.
Nakamura says that it did not become a practice.
After that, Nakamura is declaring that it can capture the defense of Australia.
"FW and MF of Australia are wonderful. DF is a key to win. "
However, Nakata says that the atmosphere of the team will enjoying.
If it is a team where concentration doesn't exist, Australia will win.

Hi oryaaaaa,
I think I agree with some of what you said.
The Australian team's heart is in this. That is a big thing.
Japan can win. Japan should win. But Japan won't win, Australia will.

Australia -v- Liechenstein.
3-1 to us but not good! (We also scored all the goals

)
Fortunately with the a lot of the back-up players being fielded. And perhaps at just the right time to shake any complacency that might be creeping in.
Australia can still get through.

You can beat Croatia but i don't think you can beat Brazil unless they have a VERY bad day.
---
FIFA rankigs are just lies managed to make business. They put some temas very high and some others (like neederland or Italy) very down and thats not true.
The six better teams are:
1.- Brazil
2.- Argentina
3.- Italy
4.- Germany
5.- Neederland
6.- England

Let's hope for that very bad day then.
A draw would do!
Those rankings look a bit more solid.
Do you know of a place somewhere that you can get a database of results (friendlies, conferences, etc) for last few years? (The fifa site needs too much mining.)

Actually, this world cup is incredibly important to Soccer in Australia. We support 3 other codes as well (Union, League, Rules) and football (soccer) is the poor relation.
But it is getting a little momentum.
Good results here = more public support = more commercial interest. It means 4 years from now we are a solid top-20 team, and 10 from now we are a top 10 team, and Australia has a strong soccer code.
If we do so-so here, oh-hum-ish, add 10 years.
If we had lost this match, add 20 years or more. This match gave the push.
